Own the Podium (OTP) Board of Directors – Nomination Opportunity
Two to three positions are available on the Own the Podium (OTP) Board of Directors for a two‑year term beginning on July 9, 2026. Appointed directors may be renewed for up to four terms (maximum eight years of service) upon re‑election by the board.
Board Overview
OTP is a not‑for‑profit corporation dedicated to improving Canadian high‑performance sport. The board has fiduciary responsibility, meets regularly, and is composed of up to twelve voting members.
Board Composition
- Three directors nominated by the Secretary of State for Sport.
- One director considered by the Canadian Olympic Committee (COC).
- One director considered by the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC).
- One director with Olympic competition experience.
- One director with Paralympic competition experience.
- Up to five independent qualified directors.
Compensation & Expenses
No director receives an honorarium. Directors may be reimbursed for reasonable expenses incurred while performing their duties, including meeting attendance costs.
Responsibilities
Serve on the board, including committees such as Finance and Audit, Governance, Nominating and Ethics, and Athlete Advisory.
Attend a minimum of four board meetings each year and participate in board decisions in accordance with the OTP by‑laws.
Selection Criteria
- Education: degree from a recognized university in a relevant field or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience: prior service on not‑profit boards.
- Additional professional experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Human resource management.
- Financial management.
- Legal acumen.
- Strategic and corporate communications.
- National‑level high‑performance sport.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French is preferred.
- Preference may be given to candidates who are women, Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, or visible minorities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Familiarity with OTP’s mandate and operational context.
- Understanding of the importance of Canadian high‑performance sport on the global stage.
- Commitment to a strong board/management culture.

- High ethical standards, integrity, and impartiality.
- Tact and diplomacy.
- Sound judgement.
- Superior interpersonal skills.
Eligibility
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
- Not declared incapable by a court.
- Not bankrupt.
