BSO RESOURCE RECREATION THERAPIST
FULL-TIME PERMANENT
Hourly Wage rate: $28.93 to $34.04
Working with residents on site at both St. Joseph's Villa in Sudbury and Villa St. Gabriel Villa in Chelmsford, the BSO Recreation Therapist will play a lead role in facilitating the Responsive Behaviours Program in consultation with the interprofessional team, and will provide coaching and mentoring to front-line staff in the application of best practices in the care of individuals with responsive behaviours. They provide guidance in developing client-centered group and individual programming in the areas of diversional activity, therapeutic adaptations, leisure education and community integration, with the goal of enabling residents to achieve quality of life and optimal health through meaningful participation in recreation and leisure.
Key responsibilities include:
- · Work collaboratively with the Behavioural Support Clinician, Behavioural Support Care Assistants, Behavioural Supports Ontario (BSO), and the greater interdisciplinary team to developing care plan and supportive interventions to reduce behavioural expressions
- · Educate patients and their families about the skills and resources required to participate in recreation and leisure activities, and to adjust to the patients' diseases or impairments.
- · Active participant on the Dementia Strategy: Task force and site committees.
- · Plan both individual and group activities. Purchase all necessary supplies. Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment in accordance with department requirements and budgets.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- · Bachelor's degree or diploma in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Administration or an equivalent program.
- · Current membership with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) or equivalent professional association
- · Demonstrated knowledge of the therapeutic recreation principles, techniques and methods and their application to the population being served.
- · Experience with a geriatric population and some training in Dementia Care, such as Dementiability, P.I.E.C.E.S, Montessori Dementia Certificate, Gentle Persuasive Approaches, Geriatric Certificate Program, Mental Health First Aid, Positive Approaches to Care, or similar programs
- · Demonstrated knowledge of clinical, socio-behavioural, and fundamental biomedical sciences relevant to geriatric syndromes and geriatric practice.
- · Bilingualism is considered an asset
- · COVID-19 Vaccination required to work in our facility (2 doses)
