Our Assessment department collects property data and conducts analysis to establish and support accurate, fair, and equitable property assessments. This information is utilized to assist internal stakeholders with decision making and establishing the annual tax rate. Property assessment involves preparing and maintaining an equitable assessment which is then used to obtain tax revenue to support the delivery of quality infrastructure and services to the County of Grande Prairie residents.
The Assessment Summer Student Is responsible for providing assistance to our Assessment Clerk, and our Assessors on various duties associated with the preparation of assessment. Duties for this role include:
- Clerical duties, which include responding to calls from the public and forwarding assessment related calls to assessment staff.
- Assisting with the preparation of assessment and tax notices.
- Providing tax agents and the public with assessment reports; co-ordinate with Finance to prepare invoicing.
- Attaching MLS, permits, photos, and documentation into SharePoint and Camelot.
- Reviewing ariel photography when flown and compare to previously flown photography for new farmland breaking.
- Assisting assessment staff with reports, and other miscellaneous assessment related tasks.
- Along with Assessors, physically assisting with the review of properties in the County for the preparation of assessments.
- Conducting research as required and help with various reports.
- Minimum of one-year post-secondary education. Priority will be given to those candidates in a related field.
- Business Administration duties.
- Friendly and co-operative with the public
- General knowledge and understanding of assessment and appraisal practices and principles would be considered an asset, but not necessary.
- Ability to read and interpret regulations and the MGA
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to ensure all work related information is kept confidential as per policy and in accordance with Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
- Ability to comply with records management practices as stated in the Records Management Policy.
- Microsoft office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
This position is Monday to Friday, from 8:30am - 4:30pm and runs from May 1 to August 29, 2025.
Hourly Wage: $24.95 - $29.36
