Position Overview
The Land Agent is responsible for securing land rights to support infrastructure, energy, and renewable resource projects across British Columbia, with a primary focus on projects in NE BC. This role combines fieldwork and office responsibilities, requiring strong stakeholder & Indigenous engagement, the ability to interpret property information, and meticulous documentation to ensure regulatory compliance and project success.
In this role, you will advance projects by negotiating agreements, coordinating approvals, maintaining accurate and defensible records, and building strong relationships with landowners, Indigenous communities, municipalities, Crown agencies, regulators, and internal project teams. Travel within British Columbia is required based on project needs and stakeholder engagement activities.
This position is initially offered as a contract or temporary-to-permanent (TE) opportunity, with the potential for extension or conversion based on performance and business needs.
Compensation
- Mid-level: $60 – $75/ hour
- Senior: $75 – $90/ hour
Responsibilities
Land Acquisition & Negotiation
- Negotiate and secure land rights and agreements, including Statutory Rights of Way, easements, licenses, options to purchase, damage settlements, and related agreements
- Conduct land and right of way acquisition activities for infrastructure, utilities, and energy projects
- Act as the primary point of contact for land acquisition activities with landowners, occupants, and stakeholders
- Contribute to large-scale linear infrastructure and energy projects
Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Lead stakeholder engagement activities including consultation, issue resolution, and relationship management
- Engage with landowners, Indigenous groups, municipalities, Crown agencies, regulators, and community stakeholders
- Represent project interests professionally via phone, email, and in-person meetings
- Participate in public meetings and consultation processes as required
Documentation & Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain clear, accurate, and defensible records of contact, commitments, and issue tracking
- Ensure documentation meets regulatory, legal, and company standards
- Prepare and manage acquisition documentation, approvals, and referrals
- Provide regular reporting updates to project teams and management
Technical & Project Coordination
- Review and interpret property information including land titles, legal surveys, plans, maps, and agreement terms
- Coordinate with Project Coordinators, Land Analysts, and project teams to ensure alignment and execution
- Identify risks and issues early and support development of mitigation strategies
- Adapt to changing project scope, timelines, and locations
Field & Operational Support
- Conduct field reviews and support construction liaison activities as needed
- Travel within British Columbia based on project and stakeholder requirements
- Provide office-based support when required
Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Follow all safety procedures, participate in training, and use appropriate equipment
- Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable BC legislation and regulations
- Contribute to process improvements and new initiatives
- Demonstrate ongoing professional development
Qualifications
- Experience in land acquisition, property administration, real estate, utilities, infrastructure, or a related field
- Strong stakeholder engagement, relationship management, and trust-building skills
- Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
- Proven ability to maintain detailed, accurate documentation in regulated environments
- Strong organizational skills with a high attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within British Columbia
- Must reside in the Fort St. John, BC area or be willing to relocate
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field (or equivalent experience)
