- Performs audiological assessments, on a referral basis, for infants, preschool and school age children with suspected hearing disorders and/or related disorders.
- Identifies, assesses, diagnoses and provides rehabilitative treatment to clients with hearing disorders; performs follow-up testing; adapts assessment and testing procedures to accommodate clients of different ages and clients with special needs such as the physically, mentally and/or multiple disabled.
- Evaluates, selects and fits hearing aids for clients; provides ongoing monitoring of hearing aids; coordinates funding assistance for clients requiring hearing aids as needed.
- Screens children/family and provides information or referral to other agencies for further follow-up; counsels and educates clients and their families regarding hearing related issues, the results of assessments, treatment plans, the use of hearing aids and roles and responsibilities in the treatment process; provides information regarding other available services for the hearing impaired.
- Provides guidance to Audiometric Technicians by ensuring standards are met, are familiar with program policies and directives through a process of orientation, and by regular communication and updates.
- Maintains related records, documentation and statistics; prepares reports in accordance with established standards and procedures.
- Provides input into the audiology program by analyzing priorities, recommending equipment acquisitions and replacements.
- Maintains inventory of hearing aids and related equipment, including monitoring revenue and expenses; authorizes orders for hearing aids.
- Calibrates audiometric equipment as required.
- Develops and maintains effective and efficient communication links with the community by liaising with colleagues, community agencies, schools, government and other health care professionals.
- Interprets audiology policies and applies them accordingly to the audiology program.
- Performs other related duties as required.
- Demonstrated thorough knowledge of theory, principles, methods, objectives and practices of Audiology and its application to the diagnosis and treatment of hearing disorders in children.
- Demonstrated knowledge of equipment and materials used in the assessment and treatment of hearing disorders.
- Ability to select, evaluate and fit hearing aids.
- Ability to plan, select, implement and evaluate individual client plans for the assessment and rehabilitation of persons with hearing problems.
- Ability to counsel/train clients and parents.
- Ability to select, administer and interpret various Audiology tests.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, including the ability to work in a team and client focussed environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to deal effectively with conflict.
- Ability to teach.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
