About the Role
The Infracon Group of Companies is seeking experienced Pipe Foremen for upcoming and potential municipal infrastructure, civil construction, mining, and utility projects across Western Canada.
We are expecting awards on several municipal infrastructure projects with significant underground utility, pipe, road grading, curb and gutter, and sidewalk components. As a result, we are looking to connect with strong field leaders who can help execute this work safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
This role is best suited for a hands-on foreman with strong experience leading underground utility and civil construction crews. The successful candidate will have a solid background in sewer and water installation, storm systems, manhole installs, trenching, shoring, roadworks, grading, and related municipal infrastructure work.
We are looking for a field leader who can coordinate crews, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and day-to-day work activities while maintaining a strong focus on safety, production, quality, and communication. The ideal candidate understands how to plan and execute pipe work in active construction environments and can work closely with superintendents, project managers, surveyors, operators, labourers, inspectors, and client representatives.

Key Responsibilities
Pipe Crew Leadership & Supervision
- Lead and coordinate daily activities for pipe crews, labourers, operators, subcontractors, and supporting field personnel
- Plan, sequence, and supervise underground utility installation and related civil construction activities
- Provide clear direction to crews to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project requirements
- Coordinate labour, equipment, tools, materials, and subcontractors to support daily production targets
- Monitor crew productivity and adjust work plans as needed to keep the project on track
- Lead by example and maintain a respectful, accountable, and safety-focused work environment
- Support mentoring, coaching, and development of labourers, pipe layers, and junior field staff
Underground Utilities & Pipe Installation
- Supervise installation of sanitary sewer, storm sewer, watermain, culverts, drainage systems, and related underground utilities
- Oversee pipe bedding, alignment, grade, slope, connections, backfill, compaction, and testing requirements
- Support installation of manholes, catch basins, valves, fittings, services, hydrants, tie-ins, and related infrastructure
- Ensure pipe work is completed according to drawings, specifications, grades, and applicable standards
- Coordinate work around existing utilities, live services, tie-ins, traffic, active equipment, and changing site conditions
- Identify utility conflicts, grade issues, unsuitable ground, or constructability concerns and communicate them promptly
- Work closely with excavator operators and pipe crews to ensure safe and efficient trench work
Shoring, Trenching & Excavation Safety
- Coordinate safe trenching, excavation, and shoring activities in accordance with project and regulatory requirements
- Ensure trench boxes, shoring systems, sloping, access/egress, spoil piles, and excavation controls are used properly
- Monitor trench conditions, groundwater, soil stability, and changing excavation hazards
- Confirm crews are following safe excavation practices around utilities, workers, equipment, and traffic
- Support confined space, ground disturbance, and excavation-related safety requirements where applicable
- Stop and escalate unsafe work conditions when required
Municipal Infrastructure & Civil Works
- Support road construction, grading, curb and gutter, sidewalk, drainage, and surface restoration activities
- Coordinate with grading, concrete, paving, utility, and restoration crews as required
- Support construction sequencing for municipal infrastructure projects, including traffic control, access, utilities, roadworks, and restoration
- Review drawings, specifications, grade information, and field layout to support accurate construction
- Work with surveyors to confirm line, grade, offsets, elevations, and layout requirements
- Help ensure work areas are prepared for follow-on activities such as curb, gutter, sidewalk, paving, landscaping, or surface restoration
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture on site
- Ensure crews follow all company, client, and project safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices
- Lead or participate in daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, field-level hazard assessments, inspections, and site orientations
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions, behaviours, or work practices
- Ensure workers use required personal protective equipment and follow site-specific requirements
- Report hazards, incidents, near misses, injuries, equipment damage, utility strikes, and environmental concerns promptly
- Support incident investigations, corrective actions, and follow-up as required
- Demonstrate a strong commitment to safe production, quality, and teamwork
Quality, Production & Documentation
- Monitor work quality and ensure installations meet drawings, specifications, grades, and inspection requirements
- Track daily progress, crew activities, equipment use, materials, deliveries, delays, and field issues
- Complete or support daily field reports, time records, safety documentation, inspection records, and project paperwork
- Coordinate with inspectors, engineers, surveyors, and project teams to support testing, inspections, and approvals
- Help reduce rework by confirming requirements, communicating clearly, and checking work as it progresses
- Ensure deficiencies, changes, delays, or site conflicts are communicated and documented in a timely manner
Equipment, Materials & Site Organization
- Coordinate equipment, tools, materials, pipe, fittings, bedding, shoring, and supplies to support daily work plans
- Ensure materials are staged, handled, and installed properly
- Monitor equipment needs, maintenance concerns, and repair requirements
- Coordinate deliveries, staging areas, access routes, laydown areas, and work zones
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas
- Support efficient use of materials and reduce unnecessary waste, delays, or rework
What You Bring
- Strong experience leading pipe crews on municipal infrastructure, civil construction, or underground utility projects
- Solid background in sewer, water, storm, drainage, manhole installation, trenching, shoring, and utility tie-ins
- Experience with road construction, grading, curb and gutter, sidewalk, and surface restoration is considered an asset
- Ability to plan and coordinate daily work activities, labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractors
- Strong understanding of safe excavation, trenching, shoring, and underground utility practices
- Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, grade stakes, site plans, and utility layouts
- Strong communication skills and ability to provide clear direction to crews
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to changing field conditions
- Reliable, accountable, and willing to travel for project-based work
- Strong organizational skills and ability to complete required field documentation
- Team-oriented leadership style with a focus on safety, production, quality, and professionalism
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Pipe Foreman, Underground Utility Foreman, Civil Foreman, Lead Hand, or senior pipe crew member is required
- Experience in municipal infrastructure, civil construction, sewer and water, storm systems, drainage, utilities, roadworks, or earthworks is strongly preferred
- Experience with manhole installation, shoring, trench boxes, utility tie-ins, and grade control is strongly preferred
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable transportation are preferred
- Equipment operating experience is considered an asset
- Ability to read drawings, specifications, grade stakes, profiles, and site plans is considered an asset
- Ground Disturbance, CSTS, WHMIS, First Aid, Confined Space, H2S Alive, Leadership for Safety Excellence, or other safety certifications are considered assets depending on project requirements
- Strong mobile app or basic computer skills for completing field reports, time records, safety forms, and project documentation are considered an asset
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and site conditions
- Ability to travel to project locations throughout Western Canada as required
- Must be eligible to work in Canada
- Drug and alcohol testing may be required depending on client, site, or project requirements

- Work may take place in municipal infrastructure, civil construction, mining, industrial, roadwork, underground utility, drainage, reclamation, or remote project environments
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, dust, mud, and uneven terrain
- Exposure to active equipment, traffic, noise, trenches, excavations, utilities, shoring, haul roads, slopes, tools, and changing site conditions
- Physically active role requiring walking, standing, climbing in and out of excavations or vehicles, and regular site coordination
- Shift schedules, rotations, overtime, and travel requirements may vary by project
- Living out allowance, camp, travel, or other project-specific arrangements may apply depending on location and project terms
Compensation & Benefits
- Wage range of $39.00 – $45.00 per hour , depending on experience and qualifications
