Parts Technician I (CSU)

From nuts and bolts to widgets and gadgets - you know your parts inventory! Make your mark assisting mechanics with obtaining the parts and materials they need to keep our City's fleet moving.

The Warehouse Operations team supports Municipal Fleet Maintenance in multiple locations throughout the City. You will assess parts and material requirements for a multitude of mobile units from compact equipment, light-duty vehicles and ambulances all the way to fire trucks, garbage trucks and heavy equipment.

What will you do?

• Collaborate with business partners to identify and understand parts and material requirements in order to provide excellent customer service
• Review manufacturer's parts books, catalogs and other resources to select the correct parts or materials based on submitted orders and/or field confirmation
• Work with internal teams and external suppliers to source requirements and coordinate delivery within business required timelines
• Maintain paperwork for orders, deliveries, returns and other activities for operational and audit purposes
• Make recommendations for inventory requirements, alternatives and stocking levels
• Ensure the warehouse and stocked inventory are efficiently organized and maintained, conducting cycle counts and investigating when discrepancies are identified
• Record your work in our corporate inventory management system (SAP) and computerized fleet management system (M5)
• Refer to and follow Standard Operating, Occupational Health and Safety, and Environmental procedures, policies and standards
• Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications :

• Journeyperson Parts Technician Certificate recognized by Government of Alberta's Advanced Education and Technology
• Minimum 1 year of Journeyperson Parts experience

Assets :

• Forklift truck license
• Experience with SAP or other ERP software solutions
• Working knowledge of SAP & M5

Skills required for success :

• Physical ability to lift a weight of 23 kilograms and reach top shelves with the aid of a stepladder
• Ability to operate a forklift and follow legislative and City of Edmonton requirements
• Knowledge of mechanical parts for mobile equipment including related distributors and dealers
• Knowledge of electronic and manual parts lookup practices
• Knowledge of inventory control and warehousing systems and practices
• Knowledge of OH&S and WHMIS, including hazardous goods handling, storage and MSDS is required
• Strong and accurate computer data entry skills
• Excellent interpersonal, customer service and problem solving skills
• Demonstrated work ethic with a willingness/ ability to learn and be mentored
• Able to understand, communicate in, read and write English at a level needed to meet job-related task and safety requirements

Conditions of Employment :

• Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
• Hire is dependent on a Criminal Records Check (CRC) security clearance that is satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position. There may be a cost associated with this requirement
