Your Opportunity
BDO Digital’s Vancouver office is looking for a Senior Manager to join our Data & AI Consulting Practice team and own the following responsibilities:
- In partnership with Western Canada Partners, industry leaders, and the National Practice Lead, Data & AI, help grow BDO’s Data & AI consulting presence across Vancouver, British Columbia, and Western Canada.
- Act as a senior market-facing consulting leader who can support Partners in client meetings, build trust with CFOs, CIOs, and senior business stakeholders, and translate business challenges into practical Data & AI opportunities.
- Lead business development activities for the Data & AI practice, including client discovery, solution positioning, proposal development, RFP responses, demos, proofs of concept, presentations, and sales support materials.
- Bring strong technical credibility to client conversations, with the ability to explain modern data platforms, analytics, AI enablement, governance, and delivery approaches in a way that is compelling, practical, and business-focused.
- Lead Data & AI strategy engagements, including current-state assessments, target-state architecture, operating model design, governance planning, business case development, and short- and long-term implementation roadmaps.
- Architect and oversee the delivery of modern data platforms that bring data together from source systems, create trusted data models, enable reporting and analytics, and support AI assistants, AI agents, machine learning, and other advanced use cases.
- Guide clients through the design and implementation of scalable data pipelines, data models, semantic layers, governed self-service analytics, dashboards, and AI-ready data foundations.
- Work with technologies and platforms such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, dbt, Power BI, Microsoft Purview, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Machine Learning, SQL, and related modern Data & AI tools.
- Lead delivery teams through complex client engagements, ensuring project milestones, quality standards, scope, timelines, and client expectations are effectively managed.
- Provide hands‑on technical guidance to project teams when needed, including architecture reviews, solution design, data modelling, integration patterns, governance approaches, and complex delivery issue resolution.
- Mentor, coach, and develop consultants and technical team members, while helping to build strong delivery standards, reusable assets, accelerators, and practice capabilities.
- Stay current with emerging Data & AI trends, including modern data platforms, lakehouse architecture, data governance, generative AI, AI agents, analytics engineering, and responsible AI practices, and bring those insights into client and practice conversations.
How do we define success for your role?
- You demonstrate BDO’s core values through all aspects of your work: Integrity, Respect, and Collaboration.
- You are viewed by Partners as a trusted Data & AI leader who can be brought into strategic client conversations and quickly build confidence with senior client stakeholders.
- Clients describe you as credible, consultative, practical, and able to connect technical possibilities with business outcomes.
- You contribute to the growth of the Western Canada Data & AI practice through business development, proposal/RFP support, client relationship building, and expansion of BDO’s market presence.
- You help clients make better use of their data by designing solutions that centralise information, improve data quality, enable reporting and analytics, and support AI‑driven business use cases.
- You deliver high‑quality consulting engagements that are well‑run, commercially sound, technically strong, and aligned to client expectations.
- You build and support an inclusive, engaging team environment that develops, retains, and attracts strong consulting and technical talent.
- You grow your expertise through continuous learning and remain curious about emerging technologies, market trends, and new ways to create value for clients.
Your experience and education
- A degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, Business Analytics, or another relevant discipline.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in Data, Analytics, AI, Business Intelligence, Software Engineering, Technology Consulting, or a related field.
- Strong consulting firm or professional services experience, with demonstrated experience selling, supporting sales pursuits, contributing to proposals/RFPs, and building trusted client relationships.
- Previous hands‑on experience as a technical delivery professional, architect, developer, data engineer, analytics leader, or similar role, with the ability to remain technically credible even if no longer coding day to day.
- Proven experience leading Data & AI consulting engagements, including data strategy, data architecture, platform modernization, data modelling, analytics, governance, AI/ML enablement, and implementation roadmaps.
- Experience designing and delivering modern data platforms, including data ingestion, transformation, data modelling, semantic layers, reporting, dashboards, data governance, and AI‑ready data foundations.
- Experience with modern Data & AI technologies such as Microsoft Fabric, Azure Databricks, Snowflake, dbt, Power BI, Microsoft Purview, Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Machine Learning, Python, SQL, and related cloud data tools.
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server Analytics technologies, including SQL Server, SSIS, SSRS, SSAS, Power BI, Azure SQL, Azure Data Lake, Azure Blob Storage, and related Microsoft data platform capabilities would be considered an asset.
- Experience helping clients implement practical use cases such as finance dashboards, operational reporting, call centre analytics, data governance, AI assistants, AI agents, machine learning use cases, and executive reporting.
- A track record of leading, growing, and mentoring high‑performing consulting or technical delivery teams.
- A track record of growing a technology service line or market presence through strategy, client relationship building, sales contribution, delivery excellence, and team development.
- Relevant certifications in Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Databricks, Power BI, data engineering, analytics, AI, or cloud platforms would be considered an asset.
- Vancouver or British Columbia market experience would be considered an asset.
Soft skills
- Strong executive presence, with the ability to communicate effectively with CFOs, CIOs, business executives, technical teams, and project stakeholders.
- Strong consultative selling skills, with the ability to identify client needs, shape opportunities, tell compelling stories, and position practical Data & AI solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop high‑quality proposals, RFP responses, presentations, solution narratives, and client‑facing materials.
- Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business language and connect Data & AI solutions to measurable business outcomes.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate teams, coach consultants, manage delivery quality, and build trust across internal and client teams.
- Commercially minded, proactive, and comfortable balancing business development, delivery leadership, technical oversight, and practice‑building responsibilities.
- Curious, current, and informed about the modern Data & AI market, with a desire to continuously learn and bring new ideas to clients and the practice.
- Agile, collaborative, creative, and comfortable operating in a fast‑paced consulting environment with multiple priorities and stakeholders.
The expected range of compensation for this role is $138,000 to $230,000 .
