About Nation Building

Our work with Indigenous Nations focuses on identifying opportunities to enhance administrative and business efficiency. By collaborating with leadership, we develop actionable strategies and implement operational plans that align with their long-term vision for success and prosperity.
We also support corporate entities and non-Indigenous governments in understanding their critical role in Nation Building. By creating Reconciliation strategies and Indigenous engagement plans, we foster deeper connections, mutual understanding, and meaningful collaboration with the communities they serve.
What will your typical day look like?
As a Consultant in the Nation Building Practice, your primary responsibility will be to support the team in delivering projects and meeting client expectations. You will play an essential role in assisting with the execution of strategic advisory services for Indigenous Nations or organizations, as well as non-Indigenous governments and corporations, ensuring that project objectives are met on time and within scope. You’ll work closely with senior team members to support business development efforts and contribute to the overall success of client engagements.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Supporting the development and delivery of Nation-building projects in areas such as strategy, negotiations, governance, finance, operations while assisting in the design and implementation of solutions in sectors like resource development, child welfare, health and infrastructure, that align with the priorities of Indigenous communities.
• Assisting multiple project teams with gathering and analyzing data and identifying opportunities for improvement in areas such as economic development, administration, and Nation-led initiatives.
• Researching and synthesizing information to create concise, executive-style summaries to support decision-making and client presentations.
• Collaborating with senior team members to help prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations that reflect the priorities of Indigenous communities.
• Supporting client communication and relationship-building efforts to ensure project alignment and client satisfaction.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth project execution and alignment with client needs.
• Supporting business development activities by contributing to proposals, presentations, and other client-facing materials
• Leveraging Deloitte's systems, AI-enabled tools, and ways of working to effectively track time, forecast resource needs, manage project information, and bring the best of Deloitte's multidisciplinary capabilities, leading practices, and insights to Indigenous clients.
This position offers the flexibility to work remotely; however, it’s important to note that some travel may be required to fulfill job responsibilities. The extent and frequency of travel will depend on specific project needs and collaboration requirements.

You bring:
• Lived experience and self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuk).
• 4 years of experience in consulting, public policy, or working with Indigenous Nations and organizations.
• A degree or diploma in a relevant field such as business, public administration, public policy, Indigenous studies, or a related discipline.
• Deep experience working with Indigenous communities, including a strong understanding of governance structures, cultural values, traditions, and social dynamics.
• Cultural awareness and sensitivity, with demonstrated ability to build trust and work respectfully in collaboration with Indigenous communities.
• Knowledge of Indigenous governance models, modern treaties, self-government agreements, and the Indian Act operating environment.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, including PowerPoint for creating professional presentations and Excel for analyzing and managing data.
• Experience synthesizing data and large amounts of information into concise, actionable insights and executive-style reports.
• Professional experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment, with demonstrated experience contributing to projects that span a range of industries, sectors, and service areas while fostering collaboration and alignment across diverse rightsholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly to diverse audiences.
• Strong organizational and priority management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, timelines, stakeholders, and competing accountabilities in a fast-paced environment.
• You are driven by a desire to work on meaningful projects that support Indigenous Nations to achieve their goals.
Nice to have: The successful candidate will also bring one or more of the following
• 2 years of consulting experience supporting Indigenous Nations, Indigenous organizations, governments, or public sector clients.
• Project management training (e.g., PMP, CAPM, Agile or equivalent).
• Work experience in a large corporation.
• Industry experience consulting on projects related to infrastructure planning and delivery, lands and resource management, major capital projects, economic participation, environmental stewardship, healthcare, child and family services, and Nation-building initiatives.
• Experience facilitating workshops, engagement sessions, strategic planning discussions, or community consultations.
• Experience developing business cases, operational plans, governance frameworks, policies, procedures, or performance measurement frameworks.
• Experience supporting organizational design, change management, or capacity-building initiatives.
• Understanding of Indigenous economic participation, Nation-owned enterprises, impact benefit agreements, and community development initiatives.
• Familiarity with federal and provincial Indigenous funding programs, reporting requirements, and partnership models.
Total Rewards
The salary range for this position is $68,000 - $102,000, and individuals may be eligible to participate in our bonus program.
