Inclusion Coordinator

Job Responsibility:

The Inclusion Coordinator is responsible to ensure inclusive experience for children with and without diverse needs and their families including a senses of belonging (gender and culture diversity), positive social relationships, development and learning to reach their full potential, in compliance with the requirements of the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development Services; Inclusion Support Grant, the vision and philosophy of the child care centre and the mission of the Military Family Resource Centre (MFRC). We believe that all individuals deserve an environment and experiences that promote growth in all areas of their development. Our team will collaborate with families to develop a plan that will support a positive child care experience.

Purpose:

The Inclusion Coordinator will work in partnership with the Inclusion team, MFRC Family Inclusion Navigator all Early Childhood Educators (ECE), employees, and the Children's Centre Director/Assistant Director to ensure the implementation of our Centre's Inclusion Statement . To provide support to ensure program adaptations, enhancements and accommodations are made so all children can fully participate in all activities; this may mean working with multiple programs or children at one time.

Family Support:

· Daily communication with families; keeping them informed of all pertinent information regarding their children.

· Provide support in multiple areas; including but not limited to military lifestyle, behavioral support, developmental delays, challenging milestones (biting, separation anxiety), diverse needs, and culture.

· Facilitate and/or attend regular family meeting assigned to case load working in collaboration to develop plans and supports for their child.

· Open communication with families; keeping them informed of all pertinent information regarding their children, program plans and development.

· Refer parents to other programs provided by the MFRC and within the community.

· Provide families with education on our curriculum framework which may include but is not limited to displays, Facebook posts, awareness days, newsletters, and family info sessions.

· Remain up to date on social trends and language.

Inclusion and Program Support:

· Implementation of the Inclusion Support Grant Work Plan, Quality Matters Plan (if applicable), centre wide EDI training, and other centre wide PD as required.

· Implementation and education of our Centre's Inclusion Statement, Curriculum Framework and the Six Principles of Inclusion.

· Work in collaboration with the MFRC Family Inclusion Navigator, Inclusion Team and Leadership Team in supporting children, families and educators. This includes facilitating and/or attend regular team meetings

· Working in collaboration with ECE's and Inclusion Team to take observations/collect data, review data and developing a plan.

· Implement goal setting with ECE's, families and external professionals for individual children's progress, i.e. Routine Based Plans/Positive Behaviour Plans

· Assist ECE's in the ongoing process of reflection and assessment for progress reports.

· Identify and research resources, equipment/supplies needed to ensure necessary program modifications are made, including a sense of belonging for children, families and staff.

· Modelling of a variety positive behaviour management techniques in accordance to the Early Learning and Childcare Regulations/Act and centre policies.

· Facilitate visits from external professionals with classroom ECE's

· Mentor, support and collaborate with ECE's to enhance their thinking, learning, expectations and practice of child development, behaviour guidance and curriculum planning to construct meaningful and responsive learning experiences for all children; looking at the whole child, family experience using a family centred approach

· Ensure all aspects of the program such as equipment and materials reflect diversity, gender, linguistic, cultures and family backgrounds.

· Complete the Special links ECIQS (Early Childhood Inclusion Quality Scale) every 3 years.

· Daily communication with the Inclusion Coordinator, Director/Assistant Director and other ECE's.

· Work on special projects/other tasks as assigned by the Director/Assistant Director.

Community Engagement:

· Collaborate with the MFRC Family Inclusion Navigator to support partnerships, and networking opportunities within the military community, other MFRC's, provincial & federal government agencies and community agencies, as required to create a network of resources and referrals for children and families.

· Establish, and maintain partnerships with both military services and civilian agencies to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting children and their families.

· Keep up to date on community trends, language, research, supports and approaches.

Operational Responsibilities:

• Assume duties of centre designate in absence of leadership team (as required).
• Participate in organizational committees such as Occupational Health & Safety and Social/Staff Fund Committee.
• Ensure confidentiality of employees, families, and volunteers including maintenance and use of database information in accordance with the MFRC Privacy Code
• Adherence to all organizational policies and standards and best practices in family support.
• Apply a lens of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the execution of responsibilities.
• Ensure all administrative requirements are complete and up to date.
• Other duties as assigned.

Administrative Responsibilities:

· Authority to monitor and enforce staff policies; specifically, supervision of children, maintaining educator: child ratios.

· Ensure confidentiality of families, volunteers and staff in accordance with the centre policies.

· Ensure all administrative requirements are complete and up to date including individual plans, meeting minutes (team and family),center inclusion tracker, outside professional assessments, observations (charts), informing the administrator of any allergies and diagnosis updates.

· Sharing inclusion information in staff meetings.

· Leading education and discussions on a variety of topics based on feedback from educators, families and Director/Assistant Director.

Education & Experience

· Nova Scotia Classification Level 2 or higher

· Experience working with children ages 3 months - 12 years in a licensed childcare facility

· Experience working with parents and as part of a team in a licensed childcare facility

· Experience working with children who have diverse needs and/or accommodations

· Mentoring experience within a childcare facility

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; and

· Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $17.78-$20.21 per hour
