Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Mold Designer to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design and development of complex plastic injection molds while supporting manufacturing, engineering, and project teams throughout the product development lifecycle. This role requires strong expertise in NX (Unigraphics), advanced mold design knowledge, and the ability to collaborate effectively with both internal teams and external customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop plastic injection molds for a variety of applications and manufacturing processes.
- Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings using NX (Unigraphics).
- Develop mold feasibility studies and present design solutions to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Design structural foam, gas-assist, multi-shot, thermoset, and compression molds.
- Perform surface creation, part development, and mold component design.
- Maintain accurate design documentation, revision history, and project records.
- Execute engineering change orders and implement design modifications.
- Identify and resolve complex technical design challenges.
- Conduct and lead design reviews to ensure quality, manufacturability, and project requirements are met.
- Evaluate buildability, manufacturability, and integration requirements in collaboration with engineering and project teams.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior designers.
- Monitor project schedules and communicate project status, risks, and resource requirements.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications, industry standards, and company procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience using NX (Unigraphics) for mold design.
- Experience designing plastic injection molds in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of injection molding technologies and tooling design principles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present design concepts and solutions.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong organizational, planning, and documentation skills.
- Proficiency in creating complex 3D models, surfaces, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in CAD/CAM Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Design, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience with advanced mold technologies such as structural foam, gas-assist, multi-shot, thermoset, or compression molding.
- Previous experience mentoring or leading design teams.
- Commitment to continuous learning and staying current with industry advancements.
Work Schedule
Day Shift: Monday through Friday
Standard working hours within a manufacturing and engineering environment.
