Operating Engineer Trainee I
A 12‑month training program in the Central Plant, Facilities Management Department, focused on operating and maintaining the university’s boiler plant and HVAC systems.
Responsibilities
- Spend approximately 6 months in the steam plant, learning operation, control and maintenance of utilities distribution networks.
- Spend approximately 6 months in building operations, gaining hands‑on experience with HVAC systems across campus buildings.
- Assist senior engineers in monitoring, control and repair of plant and building utilities.
- Prepare and maintain maintenance records and reports.
Qualifications
- Grade 12 diploma (or equivalent) and proven success in all TSSA exams for the Fourth (4th) Class Operating Engineer Certification for Ontario (proof required).
- Above‑average mechanical aptitude; basic electrical knowledge is an asset.
- Strong written and oral communication in English; proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and a respectful workplace.

This term position is part of the UNIFOR Local 2003 union; joining the union is required.
