The City of Winkler’s Building Maintenance department ensures that our public facilities are clean and functional. This department maintains several municipal facilities, including City Hall, the Winkler Library, our Public Works and Utilities building, the P.W. Enns Centennial Concert Hall, and the Winkler Police Service building. This team makes a vital contribution to our city’s quality of life!
What You’ll Do
Reporting to the Building Maintenance Supervisor, our City Hall Custodian serves the public by cleaning Winkler’s City Hall and restocking washroom supplies. The employee will primarily work in City Hall but may be requested to fill in for other custodians and clean other facilities as well.
Job Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
- The primary focus of the custodian is to make sure offices, washrooms, meeting rooms, break rooms, hallways, reception areas are cleaned.
- Sweep, wash, and vacuum floors with dry mops, mops, vacuum cleaners, and floor cleaner.
- Empty garbage and recycling containers.
- Restock washroom supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, soap, etc.).
- Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks, counters, mirrors, and the entrance doors’ glass.
- Other general cleaning throughout the facility.
- Clean and put away dishes.
- And other relevant tasks as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications You’ll Need
- Experience with operating custodial equipment and supplies is an asset.
- Will be required to take training in basic first aid, CPR, and WHIMIS.
- A level II Criminal Record Check will be required.
- Class 5 Driver's License is an asset, but not a requirement.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Must be a team player.
- Ability to work alone, including completing tasks in a timely fashion, task prioritization, and moving on to the next task.
- Knowledge of custodial supplies and how to handle various custodial situations.
- Ability to notice details in the cleanliness of facilities and a pride in meeting high standards.
- Understanding of WHMIS and Safety Data Sheets.
- Some written and oral communications skills are required.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Be physically capable of performing work tasks.
- Must be safety conscious in all matters related to custodial work, staff, and the public.
Job Details
- Part-time hours, about 22.5 hours per week. Shifts are primarily in the evening.
- Pay Range is $20.11 to $23.89 per hour, depending on experience.
- Mostly indoor work.
- Primarily active, physical work, involving cleaning at various heights, reaching behind objects, lifting equipment and supplies weighing up to 50lbs.
- Work requires the use of some PPE.
- Hazards associated with working with hand tools and power equipment, slippery surfaces, and working with hazardous materials.
