The challenges that await you

Under the authority of the immediate supervisor, you develop and implement strategies in public affairs and media relations, in accordance with the strategic vision.

You contribute to the implementation and monitoring of the City’s communication policies and standards.

In this capacity, you act as a consultant and work closely with members of management, the mayor's office, and various internal clients to develop strategies and manage mandates of varying scope by recommending best practices in public affairs and media relations.

You are also called upon to coordinate and collaborate on various internal and external projects and interventions involving public affairs expertise.

And more specifically:

• You develop, collaborate on, and implement, as needed, public affairs and media relations strategies and initiatives;
• You act as a consultant in the development of integrated communication campaigns and propose public affairs strategies;
• You receive, analyze, and respond to media requests and act, as needed, as a spokesperson;
• You conduct media monitoring and strategic monitoring of current events and your sector for best business practices. Analyze, evaluate opportunities and trends, and provide recommendations to achieve targets and enhance the City’s visibility;

• You plan and execute media events (press conferences and briefings, photo ops, technical briefings, etc.) by establishing timelines, strategies, and work plans;
• You develop, write, or coordinate the creation of various communication tools specific to public affairs, such as press lines, briefing notes, interview plans, speeches, presentations, event scenarios, or any other relevant document, and ensure the necessary validations and approvals;
• You act as a consultant in the production of press releases, ensuring the final writing, coordination for linguistic review and/or translation, as well as the necessary approvals, particularly from the mayor's office.

The ideal profile for us

• • Hold a bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, political science, journalism, or any other relevant field;
  • Have a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in media relations, such as:
    • • Deployment of proactive approaches to journalists;
      • Management of media requests;
      • Writing and dissemination of public affairs tools;
      • Conducting interviews as a spokesperson;
      • Organizing media events;

• • Be able to assess potential issues and reputational risks for a large organization, ideally in the public sector;
  • Experience working collaboratively with the political environment is desirable;
  • Experience as a consultant to managers from various backgrounds;
  • Be available some evenings and weekends to respond to media requests, as well as emergencies and occasional needs.
