Social Services Worker Diploma Instructor - SOWK 200 (26:105)

Term of App't: Temporary, Part Time - Sep 1 to Dec 16, 2026 (6 hours/week) 

Start date: September 1, 2026 

Reporting to: Dean of Health Sciences & Human Services 

$50.07 - $56.75/hour depending on experience and qualifications as per the BCGEU Faculty Collective Agreement. Temporary employees receive an additional 2% in lieu of benefits, 6% vacation pay and 4.2% statutory holiday pay included with each pay. Employees in this group have the opportunity to contribute to the College Pension Plan, that are matched by the employer.

The Social Services Worker Diploma program is looking to hire an individual to instruct SOWK 200: Introduction to the Social Work Practice .

This course offers an introduction to critical and generalist social work practice, which is concerned with personal troubles faced by individuals, families, groups and communities. The major histories, ideologies and values that influence the profession of social work practice are explored. An understanding and application of critical thinking and social work values are applied to social justice obligations.

*** Note that first day of in person class instruction is September 10th, with the weekly schedule being Tuesday & Thursday, from 1:15 – 2:40pm.

Required

• Bachelor's degree in social work or social services, with a master's degree in a closely related discipline.
• Minimum of five years of experience in a related field.
• Demonstrated commitment to student motivation and achievement.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively and contribute positively to the College environment.

Preferred

• Master's degree in social work.
• Registered Social Worker (RSW) designation in British Columbia.
• Post-secondary teaching experience.
• Experience using learning management systems (LMS) and teaching through multiple delivery modalities.
• Professional experience in the social service field within rural and remote settings.
• Experience teaching a culturally diverse student population, including Indigenous and international students.
