Pacific Land Group

Biologist (Project Based, Contract) –

Surrey / Lower Mainland / Fraser Valley, BC

Pacific Land Group (PLG) is an experienced multidisciplinary land-use consulting firm focused on delivering creative and effective solutions for complex land planning, development and environmental issues. Our expertise also includes, but is not limited to, land development and approvals, feasibility studies, Sensitive Ecosystem Development Plans and Permits (EDP/DP3), engineering design and construction, topographic surveys, and Erosion and Sediment Control (ESC). We represent both public- and private-sector clients on a variety of planning, zoning and environmental matters. At PLG, merit is recognized, ideas are encouraged, and every project is an opportunity to shape thriving, sustainable communities.

The Opportunity

PLG is seeking a motivated, self-starting Biologist to join our growing environmental team. This position is ideal for an environmental professional with approximately 1–5 years of consulting experience who enjoys tackling new challenges, thinking critically, working both independently and as part of a collaborative team, and developing expertise across a broad range of environmental projects. At PLG, we are thinkers, and we're looking for someone who shares that mindset, someone who enjoys solving problems, takes initiative, asks thoughtful questions, and is motivated by continuous learning.

We welcome applications from individuals currently working on contract, in seasonal positions, or looking to transition into a permanent consulting role.

Reporting directly to the Lead Biologist, you will contribute to a diverse mix of field and office-based projects throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley. No two weeks are the same, you may be completing stream assessments one day, preparing technical reports the next, supporting construction monitoring, or assisting clients through the environmental permitting process.

This position is well suited to someone who is highly organized, takes initiative, enjoys problem solving, and has a passion for producing high-quality technical work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete stream assessments, stream delineations, and watercourse determinations.
  • Prepare Riparian Areas Protection Regulation (RAPR) assessments and reports.
  • Prepare technical reports, environmental assessments, technical memoranda, and regulatory submissions.
  • Assist with Water Sustainability Act (WSA) notifications, approvals, and permitting.
  • Support environmental development permit applications and municipal environmental reviews.
  • Conduct vegetation inventories, habitat assessments, and environmental baseline studies.
  • Complete environmental monitoring during construction, including erosion and sediment control inspections.
  • Participate in fish salvages, amphibian salvages, bird nest surveys, and wildlife assessments.
  • Assist with restoration planning, monitoring programs, and environmental compliance.
  • Work directly with senior staff while progressively taking ownership of projects and client files.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 1–5 years of environmental consulting experience in British Columbia.
  • Exceptional written communication skills with demonstrated ability to prepare professional technical reports.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team.
  • Willingness to work both in the field and the office, with occasional early mornings and travel throughout the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.
  • Valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver's Licence and access to a reliable vehicle.

Experience with one or more of the following would be considered an asset:

  • RAPR assessments and reporting.
  • WSA notifications, permitting, or approvals.
  • Stream determinations, stream delineations, and watercourse classification assessments.
  • Municipal environmental development permit applications (DPs/WPDPs/NEDPs).
  • Fisheries assessments, fish salvage, amphibian salvage, or bird nest surveys.
  • Environmental monitoring during construction, including erosion and sediment control.
  • Restoration planning, environmental monitoring, or habitat enhancement projects.
  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) with the College of Applied Biology.

Why Join PLG?

  • Opportunity to work on diverse, high-profile land development and environmental projects.
  • Gain exposure to the planning and development process through collaboration on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Be part of a supportive, merit-based culture that rewards initiative and innovative thinking.
  • Direct access to senior professionals and mentorship in a collaborative boutique setting.
  • Competitive compensation and growth potential within a dynamic firm.

Application

Compensation will be $28.00–$40.00 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and professional designation.

If your experience differs from the qualifications listed above, but you believe you would be a strong addition to our team, we encourage you to apply.

Please submit your resume and cover letter to ***email_hidden***.

Pacific Land Group reserves the right to modify the seniority, responsibilities, and title of this position based on the successful candidate's experience, qualifications, and professional registration.
