Independent Contractor | The Mindful Loft | Ontario / Ottawa Preferred

The Mindful Loft is looking for a couples therapist to join our growing relationally focused practice.

We support individuals and couples navigating betrayal trauma, infidelity, relational wounds, childhood attachment injuries, anxiety in relationships, emotional shutdown, conflict, repair, and trust rebuilding. Couples therapy inquiries have increased, especially around betrayal and infidelity, and we are looking for someone clinically grounded who can help meet this need.

This is an independent contractor role best suited for a therapist who already has experience working with couples and is interested in growing within a niche relational practice.

About the Role

The primary need is couples therapy, with the option of also seeing individual clients when there is a good fit. An ideal client mix would be approximately 70% couples and 30% individuals, depending on referral flow and therapist availability.

Clients may be navigating infidelity, betrayal trauma, trust repair, relationship ambivalence, conflict cycles, emotional disconnection, childhood relational wounds, divorce or separation, attachment patterns, people-pleasing, over-functioning, or emotional shutdown.

Who We Are Looking For

This role may be a good fit if you:

• have direct experience providing couples therapy
• have training in EFT, Gottman Method, or another clear couples therapy approach
• are trauma-informed and relationally oriented
• can work with betrayal and infidelity without minimizing the injury or shaming either partner
• understand the importance of accountability, repair, pacing, and emotional safety
• can screen for IPV, coercive control, active addiction, and other contraindications for couples therapy
• are comfortable with intensity, rupture, ambivalence, defensiveness, grief, anger, and shame
• value consultation, reflection, and continued learning
• are interested in growing with the practice long-term

This role is not ideal for someone who is brand new to couples therapy or looking for extensive training before beginning couples work. Some support and consultation will be available, but applicants should already feel reasonably established in their couples work.

Requirements

Applicants must:

• be registered with CRPO as an RP or RP(Q)
• be authorized to practise psychotherapy in Ontario
• carry their own professional liability insurance
• have their own clinical supervisor or consultation support
• have experience providing couples therapy
• maintain timely clinical documentation
• align with The Mindful Loft’s relational, trauma-informed, non-pathologizing approach

Ottawa-based therapists are preferred, especially those open to some in-person evening availability. Virtual-only Ontario therapists may also be considered for the right fit.

Practice Details

The Mindful Loft provides:

• a growing niche practice with increasing couples therapy inquiries
• intake triage and client matching
• Jane practice management system
• billing and administrative systems
• website profile once onboarded
• regular check-ins and team connection
• monthly team meetings focused on betrayal trauma, relational trauma, clinical discussion, book club-style learning, training, and shared professional growth
• an established brand focused on betrayal trauma, infidelity, and relational wounds

The therapist is responsible for providing ethical and competent therapy, maintaining documentation, using Jane for consent forms and payments, carrying their own insurance, and maintaining their own supervision or consultation.

Compensation

This is an independent contractor position.

Compensation is based on a percentage split. Specific session fees and compensation details will be discussed with the selected candidate and may depend on experience, qualifications, services offered, and fit with the role.

While The Mindful Loft is receiving increasing couples therapy inquiries, client volume is not guaranteed. Caseload depends on referral flow, client needs, therapist availability, clinical fit, and client choice. This role is best suited for someone who is interested in growing with the practice over time.

Availability

We are looking for someone who can begin with at least one regular shift of availability, with room to grow as referrals increase.

Evening availability is an asset, especially for couples therapy.
