Project Manager, Utility Design

This role ensures Aecon Utility Engineering supports the successful acquisition and tendering of various major projects with both internal and external stakeholders, and that we meet our commitments to those stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Establish customer relations and business opportunities as a representative of Aecon.
  • Proactively seek out new opportunities.
  • Support Estimating as required—attend project‑specific technical and commercial meetings; review tender documents for technical requirements and ensure bid compliance; close tenders with Estimating leadership.
  • Identify project concerns proactively and alert management of potential risks on assigned projects.
  • Provide technical and commercial input on how to minimize and mitigate project impacts.
  • Assist in acquiring talent and retaining staff to support major projects, including technicians, engineers, and coordinators.
  • Assist in the sourcing and recommendation of vendors, manufacturers, subcontractors, and equipment to support major projects.
  • Collaborate with other Aecon Utilities departments and divisions to support each pursuit.
  • Collaborate with joint venture partners, including schedulers, designers/engineers, lawyers, and estimators.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders such as manufacturers, vendors, municipalities, and utility owners.
  • Advocate for Aecon’s safety culture and conduct site safety inspections.
  • Be available to travel and/or locate at project assignments across Ontario and beyond as required.
  • Host weekly meetings to update the Senior Leadership Team on the progress of each pursuit.
  • Maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5–10 years of industry experience.
  • Technical background with professional accreditation (P.Eng./CET) or equivalent industry experience.
  • Knowledge of utility engineering and/or construction requirements and activities.
  • Past experience working on utility projects.
  • Past experience working on P3/EPC projects.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret early‑stage technical design drawings and specifications, and provide recommendations.
  • Commercial contracting knowledge, including cost management and change order management.
  • Scheduling experience and analytical skills.
  • Cost analysis, control, and reporting skills.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.

Salary

The expected pay range for this role is $80,000 – $110,000 per year.
