The Civil Project Manager plays a key role in leading the team to manage the daily operations of the project. This position requires a solid background in Heavy Civil Mining Construction and Reclamation. Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively lead and collaborate with a team are essential, along with the capacity to take direction when needed. The role demands a demonstrated ability to delegate responsibilities and work closely with other team members. Drawing on their extensive experience and industry expertise, the Civil Project Manager helps guide the project to ensure goals and deliverables are achieved.
Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Civil Project Manager to oversee construction projects from inception to completion. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a comprehensive understanding of civil engineering principles, ensuring that all projects are executed efficiently, on budget, safely, and in accordance with industry standards. This role requires excellent time management and project management abilities, along with proficiency in construction management software.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the clients, while maintaining a positive relationship
- Report project progress to the client and the corporate office
- Develop, monitor and manage project costs and budgets through project controls
- Approve invoices, track expenditures and provide financial reports
- Supervise and coordinate daily activities of construction teams to ensure project milestones are met.
- Manage project schedules effectively, ensuring timely completion of tasks while maintaining quality standards.
- Ensure quality control standards are being adhered to during the lifecycle of the project
- Cordinate with the client, subcontractors and third parties to ensure project alignment and resolve issues that arise during the construction process.
- Provide training and mentorship to junior staff members on best practices in construction management.
- Ensure progressive discipline is being followed and implemented when required.
Experience
- Proven experience managing teams of Mine Supervisors and certified Shift Bosses in open-pit mining environments.
- Strong understanding of the Health, Safety, and Reclamation Code for Mines in British Columbia, including Shift Boss certification requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement safety programs, training initiatives, and incident investigation procedures.
- Familiarity with geotechnical monitoring and reporting practices.
- Strong project controls and reporting
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proven experience in a supervisory role within the civil engineering or construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of construction management software, including Bluebeam for document management and collaboration.
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with construction estimating processes and software is an asset.
Qualifications
- 5+ years’ experience in Heavy Civil Construction
- 5+ years’ experience in Mining Construction and Reclamation is required
- Able to work shift work and on remote job sites
- Shift Boss tickets are a strong asset
- Class 5 license
Compensation and Benefits
- Full-time position
- Subsistence is available, however local hires will be given priority
- Competitive wage based on experience (range between $55.00/hr to $75.00/hr, plus 10% vacation/statutory holiday pay)
