Next Step Director

Job Responsibility:

Location: MWS Camps Toronto (University of Toronto) and MWS Camps Montreal (McGill University)

Start date: June 22 - August 6. Training days June 19 - 21. This is a residential position.

Compensation: $6000 for dates noted above. Contract terms include all meals, single room accommodation, and entrance to all excursions and activities. Director will have 1 day off per week.

Established in 1983, MWS Student Camps has welcomed thousands of young people from more than 50 nations to our camps. From the beginning, we have strived to offer and operate innovative, vibrant, and exciting programmes. The MWS Next Step programme is designed to guide students ages 15 and up through the transition from teenage years to young adulthood. The programme is built around the Five Pillars of Next Step with seminars with interactive projects, first-aid certification, and real-world, hands-on experiences.

Our Next Step Director will oversee the execution of the programme in Toronto and Montreal by accompanying our students in seminars, workshops, excursions, and more. The director will lead the team of Next Step Leaders to ensure our students are safe and comfortable throughout their time in the programme. The director will be responsible to ensure all excursions and activities are prepared for our students. This position reports to the Director of Programmes.

Responsibilities Include but not limited to:

• Organize and supervise the Next Step programme during activities, excursions, meals, etc.
• Oversee and engage in Next Step seminars
• Lead and manage Next Step workshops
• Support with staff training activities and workshops
• Work with MWS staff to create an inclusive community
• Work cooperatively with MWS staff to ensure students are safe, healthy, and happy
• Promote and display MWS values
• Maintain student and staff confidentiality at all times

Qualifications & Experience:

• Post-Secondary student or higher
• Fluent in English
• Experience in a director and/or programming role is required
• Volunteer and/or work experience with youth in a camp setting and/or educational environment
• Demonstrated knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of diversity and social inclusivity
• Able to work collaboratively with Directors and Leaders
• Strong conflict resolution skills
• Fluency in other languages is an asset but not required
