Book Fair Representative

Job Responsibility:

Owl's Nest Books is looking to expand its book fairs team! We are looking for someone passionate about children's literature to travel to schools across Calgary and manage the sales at their book fairs.

What's the job?

We work with schools to hold a fundraiser event similar to the Scholastic book fairs you may be familiar with. On the Monday, we arrive at the school and set up our book displays. Throughout the week, students will shop the book fair. The Thursday night is typically an evening event parents and guardians attend and shop the book fair. On the Friday we pack up the book fair and haul it away.

When not at a book fair, flexible 6-hour shifts are available in the Owl's Nest store in the Britannia shopping plaza off Elbow Drive.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist with book fair set up at the school

- Refresh book displays between class visits

- Handle the sale of books and other goods through our point-of-sale system

- Handle sales to parents/guardians during one evening over the course of the book fair

- Assist with the take down of the book fair

- Provide recommendations and product knowledge as requested by customers

- Assist with book fair stock management

Key Requirements:

- Knowledge of and passion for children's literature, including picture books, chapter books, graphic novels, and a variety of age-appropriate non-fiction

- Proficiency with computers and the ability to learn new computer programs

- Experience working with youth in group settings

- Reliable transportation

- Availability for the full week of a book fair, including one evening during the book fair

- A police check that can be presented to the schools upon request (can be completed after being hired)

When there is not a book fair, flexible 6 hour shifts in the store will be available.

In-store Responsibilities:

- Processing customer sales and special orders

- Restocking shelves and displays

- Answering phones and contacting customers

- Assisting customers by providing recommendations, product knowledge, and placing special orders

Job Types: Part-time, Casual

Pay: From $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 12 - 40 per week
