Transportation Technologist

What is the role?

As a Transportation Technologist, you will support transportation planning and traffic engineering projects through the collection, analysis, and documentation of transportation data. You will conduct field surveys, operate traffic data collection equipment, and assist in the preparation of technical studies and reports. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an early-career transportation professional to gain hands-on experience across a variety of transportation planning and traffic engineering assignments throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

In this role, your duties and responsibilities will include:

Transportation Surveys & Data Collection

• Conduct a variety of transportation surveys, including but not limited to turning movement counts, site trip generation studies, parking utilization surveys, vehicle queue length studies, travel time surveys, and other traffic-related data collection activities.


• Perform field investigations and site visits to collect transportation data, observe traffic conditions, and document findings to support project requirements.


• Deploy, operate, and maintain traffic counting equipment and other data collection tools used for transportation studies.


• Gather, organize, and verify transportation data to support traffic analyses, forecasting, and Traffic Impact Studies.


• Assist with transportation planning and traffic engineering projects by collecting, compiling, and summarizing technical data and project information.


• Support the preparation of technical reports, traffic studies, data summaries, and project documentation.


• Maintain accurate records, field notes, and project documentation in accordance with company standards and project requirements.

Health, Safety

• Comply with all applicable health, safety, and environmental policies, procedures, and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.


• Report unsafe conditions, hazards, incidents, and near misses to the direct supervisor promptly.

Quality

• Ensure quality assurance and quality control procedures are followed throughout all phases of project delivery.

Professional Development

• Participate in professional development activities, including training programs, workshops, seminars, industry events, and professional association involvement to maintain and enhance technical knowledge and skills.


• Perform other duties and responsibilities within the scope of the Transportation & Systems Division.

The qualifications you need:

• Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Transportation Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.


• Experience conducting transportation surveys and field data collection is considered an asset.


• Valid driver's licence with a clean driving record and access to a reliable vehicle. Travel is required for this position.


• Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, nights, and weekends, to accommodate survey and project requirements.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and transportation-related software and tools, such as Synchro, GIS applications, PetraPro, and Adobe Illustrator, is considered an asset.


• Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.


• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.


• Effective verbal and written communication skills.


• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.


• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform fieldwork responsibilities safely and effectively.

• Annual Salary Range: $50,000 – $55,000.

• This position requires regular travel to survey and project locations throughout the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The successful candidate must possess a valid Ontario Class G driver's licence and have regular access to a reliable vehicle.
