En tant qu’agent(e) de la cour - Soutien judiciaire, vous serez chargé de la coordination et de la gestion des audiences tenues à toutes les instances de cour; vous fournirez un soutien aux juges et assurerez la liaison entre ces derniers et les membres du personnel des agences d’application de la loi, les responsables de la profession juridique et le public. De plus, vous assumerez le rôle de greffier de la Cour dans tous les tribunaux, y compris pour les jurys, et vous exercerez des fonctions judiciaires et quasi-judiciaires comme juge de paix. Vous effectuerez vos tâches conformément à la loi sur les fonctionnaires de la cour (Court Officials Act).

En tant qu’agent(e) de la cour - Soutien judiciaire, vous aurez deux ans d’études postsecondaires dans une discipline connexe et cinq ans d’expérience pertinente dans un environnement juridique. Une combinaison équivalente de formation et d’expérience avec une connaissance du système de justice sera acceptable. Le présent poste est désigné bilingue, ce qui exige la capacité de communiquer avec aisance en anglais et en français. Pour ce poste, vous devrez avoir de l’expérience et des compétences en matière de dactylographie, de traitement de texte, de transcription et d’autres applications informatiques courantes. De plus, vous devrez posséder d’excellentes compétences en matière de relecture, d’orthographe et de grammaire et devrez connaître les principes généraux de la comptabilité. Vos grandes capacités organisationnelles, votre souci du détail, vos solides aptitudes à établir des priorités ainsi que votre capacité à travailler avec vitesse et exactitude contribueront à la réalisation de diverses tâches tout en respectant des échéanciers serrés. Vous devrez être en mesure de travailler de façon autonome et en équipe. Vous devrez être juste et impartial envers tous les clients, maintenir un haut degré de confidentialité et exercer vos excellentes compétences interpersonnelles et de communication lorsque vous traiterez avec des personnes difficiles dans des situations complexes, délicates et stressantes. Vous devrez impérativement faire preuve de tact et de discrétion.Vous devrez connaître et bien comprendre les règles et les statuts qui régissent les tribunaux et avoir de bonnes connaissances pratiques des documents juridiques, des formulaires, des procédures judiciaires et de la terminologie juridique. The Court Services Division of the Nova Scotia Department of Justice is dedicated to excellent service and the provision of fair and accessible administration of justice, including court administration and security.
The Division provides administrative support to the courts listed: Nova Scotia Court of Appeal, Supreme Court of Nova Scotia (including Family Division), Provincial Court, Family Court, Small Claims Court, Probate Court and Bankruptcy Court. The courts act independently from the government to address individual cases.
About Our Opportunity
As the Court Officer 1-2 - Judicial Support, you will coordinate and manage court hearings held in all levels of Court, provide support to the Judiciary, and act as the liaison between the Judiciary, and members of law enforcement agencies, the legal profession, and the public. You will also act in the role of the clerk of the Court in all courts, including jury sitting and performs judicial and quasi-judicial duties as a Justice of the Peace. You will perform your duties in accordance with, and as assigned under, the Court Officials Act.
About You
As the successful Court Officer 1-2 - Judicial Support, you will have two years of post-secondary education in a related discipline plus five years related experience in a legal environment; an equivalent combination of training and experience with exposure to the justice system will be acceptable. This position is designated bilingual so requires fluency in English and French. For this position, your experience and competency in keyboarding, word processing, transcribing, and other standard computer applications are required. You will also possess excellent proofreading, spelling, and grammar skills, and have a knowledge of general accounting principles. Your superior organizational abilities, detail-oriented, strong prioritizations skills, with a combination of speed and accuracy, assist with your attention to detail for a variety of tasks while meeting tight deadlines. You’re able to work independently and as part of a team. You must be fair and impartial to all clients using a high degree of confidentiality while exercising your excellent interpersonal and communication skills when dealing with difficult people in complex, sensitive and stressful situations. Tact and discretion are essential.You must demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of the Rules and Statutes that govern the courts as well as a sound working knowledge of legal documents, forms, court procedures and legal terminology. In conjunction with legal research skills, you will demonstrate a high level of initiative and problem-solving abilities and readily accept responsibilities.
Training and/or experience in mediation and non-conflict resolution would be considered an asset.
We will assess the above qualifications using one or more of the following tools: written examination, typing test, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks
Other Considerations:
This is a permanent ful-time position based in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
- Candidates may be required to obtain training in Firearms Safety in relation to handling evidence and will be required to successfully complete the Nova Scotia Certified Transcribers qualification.
- This position will require an enhanced level of security screening for an external application.
- Recruitment activities for Judicial Support opportunities will include a typing and grammar assessment.

Salary Range: $2,046.28 - $2,826.01 Bi-Weekly
