Course :  BIO394H5F - Working Towards Truth and Reconciliation in Biology

Course Description: This course focuses on the intersection of biology and ongoing settler colonialism in Canada. Students will engage with Indigenous and Western science approaches in the contexts of Indigenous food systems, environment, and health. The course will equip students to shape responsible practice in biology.

Class schedule:

Qualifications: A 4-year degree in Biology or related field with appropriate background for the course to be demonstrated. Preferred Qualifications include: academic qualifications, enrolment as a graduate student, previous TA experience, suitability for the position and appropriate background in the subject/specialty within the Department of Biology. Previous involvement in the development of this course or TA experience in a similar course preferred. 

Duties:  Typical duties may include but are not limited to: preparing tests/exams, attending meetings with supervisor, marking presentations, reports, reflections, final exam marking, consulting with students, marking quizzes/ tests/oral presentations, marking exams, invigilating

Rate of Pay : In accordance with the current CUPE Collective Agreement CUPE3902, Unit 3, effective September 1, 2026, the rate of pay for a sessional instructional assistant is $ 55.25  per hour. Should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.   

This job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement. 

It is understood that some announcements of vacancies are tentative, pending final course determinations and enrollment. 

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement. 

Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
