Who we need
Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, we are seeking a Director, IT Security and Infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of IT operations, infrastructure, and cybersecurity across the University. You will provide strategic technology and security guidance aligned with institutional priorities, supporting the student, faculty, and employee experience while ensuring the stability, security, and scalability of the University’s technology environment. As Director, you will lead the infrastructure and security function, including infrastructure platforms, networks, cloud environments, and IT security. You will play a key role in ensuring technology investments align with institutional priorities and long-term infrastructure and security strategy. You will oversee IT operating and capital budgets, including infrastructure planning, lifecycle management, and investment planning across the IT function.
This is an existing full-time role, working 2 days remotely and 3 days on-site at 85 Richmond Street West, with a move to our new headquarters at 120 Bloor Street East in Fall 2026.
What’s in it for you
Ownership and impact. This is a leadership role with responsibility for shaping the University’s IT infrastructure and cybersecurity environment. You will lead the development of a cyber risk and resilience program, strengthen infrastructure governance and vendor oversight, and guide long-term infrastructure and security planning. This role offers the opportunity to build and mature infrastructure and security capabilities and to implement structures, processes, and technologies that will have long-term institutional impact.
Building and transformation. The infrastructure environment is evolving, and this role will play a central part in the transition from a heavily outsourced model to a more strategically managed, internally guided environment. You will assess current infrastructure and vendor relationships, implement stronger governance and visibility, and determine where capabilities should be built internally versus managed through partners. This is an opportunity to build, modernize, and implement structure and long-term direction across infrastructure and security.
Leadership environment and growth. You will work in a collaborative and transparent leadership environment that values accountability, learning, and continuous improvement. Leaders are empowered to lead their functions, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement meaningful changes. This is a high-visibility role with access to senior leadership and opportunities to contribute to institutional strategy and long-term planning. Over time, this role offers opportunities for expanded scope and leadership growth as the function matures.
Visibility and career growth. Yorkville is a forward-thinking academic institution committed to innovation and collaboration. As a national university with faculty, staff, and students across Canada in both online and in-person environments, technology infrastructure and security are critical to institutional success. This role will have a broad organizational impact by supporting academic delivery, operations, and long-term institutional growth through a stable, secure, and well-governed technology infrastructure.
As our new Director, IT Security and Infrastructure, you will:
- Contribute as a senior IT leader. As part of the senior management team, you will develop IT strategy, budgeting and planning, and project prioritization aligned with organizational goals. You will oversee vendor management, contracts, renewals, and budgets, ensuring strong vendor relationships and effective service delivery.
- Lead a team. You will provide guidance on system configuration, troubleshooting, architecture decisions, and technology implementations. You will mentor, coach, and support team members, fostering a knowledge-sharing environment that prioritizes communication, continuous learning, teamwork, and skills development.
- Oversee infrastructure planning and deployment. You will provide technical oversight and support for infrastructure platforms, system configuration, incident management, and change management. You will ensure scalability, capacity, reliability, security, performance, and flexibility to meet short- and long-term business needs. You will collaborate with business users and the IT Program Management team on infrastructure implementations and upgrade initiatives.
- Take ownership. You will be responsible for business continuity, disaster recovery planning and execution. You will ensure the development and execution of cybersecurity policies, procedures, and technologies. You will develop strategies to improve and leverage existing systems and, where necessary, re-engineer them to ensure alignment with business processes, tactical planning, and strategic vision. You will stay current on industry trends, technologies, and solutions and provide direction on what should be utilized and integrated.
- Build partnerships. You will nurture external relationships to support corporate strategic imperatives. You will partner internally with the value centre and campus leaders to establish requirements, SLAs, and measures to support their teams. You will manage relationships with technology vendors, service providers, and external partners, including negotiating contracts, monitoring performance, and ensuring compliance with security and service-level agreements.
- Implement and optimize standards. You will establish and maintain IT governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, security standards, and organizational policies. You will build and nurture a customer- and end-user-focused IT culture that is proactive, service-oriented, and raises the confidence level of the user community.
What you bring:
- The education and expertise. You have a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in a related discipline (or equivalent experience). You have progressive experience in IT operations, infrastructure, and security, including technical project management and an understanding of industry trends and strategies. You are a proven people manager with experience fostering inclusive working environments, managing team objectives, coaching, performance management, and conflict management.
- The technical knowledge. You have experience implementing and managing cybersecurity programs, including risk assessment, vulnerability management, and security incident response aligned with industry best practices. You have expert knowledge of cloud infrastructure, enterprise platforms, and modern IT environments, including hybrid and cloud-based solutions. You have an in-depth understanding of IT governance, regulatory compliance, and security standards to protect organizational systems and data.
- The leadership skills. You build trusting relationships and influence, with and without authority, and demonstrate sound judgment and adaptability. You are open-minded and skilled at balancing innovation with best practices. You can communicate complex technical and compliance concepts clearly and effectively.
- Institutional perspective and impact. You bring a senior-level, enterprise-wide perspective, capable of seeing connections and anticipating implications of decisions. You are comfortable operating in a high-visibility, national role where your work supports institutional priorities, strengthens infrastructure stability, security and compliance, and contributes directly to the University’s long-term infrastructure and security strategy.
