Anti-Racism Project Advisor

BACKGROUND:
SCO is a growing and dynamic regional First Nation organization that represents 33 Anishinaabe and Dakota Nations and more than 92,000 citizens in what is now southern Manitoba. Established in 1999 by the Chiefs, SCO is mandated as an independent organization to protect, preserve, promote, and enhance First Nation peoples’ inherent rights, languages, customs, and traditions through the application and implementation of the spirit and intent of the Treaty-making process.
OVERVIEW:
Reporting to the Anti-Racism Project Manager, Health Transformation, the Anti-Racism Project Advisor is responsible for assisting in the operationalization of SCO’s Southern First Nations Anti-Racism Strategy and the development of a Health Ombudsperson Office. The Project Advisor will conduct essential groundwork to facilitate the implementation of Anti-First Nations Racism practices within health care systems, translating findings into actionable steps, framework(s), and measurable outcomes. This role will work to ensure that initiatives reflect the needs and perspectives of Southern First Nations citizens/members.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Partner with the Anti-Racism Project Manager to build and sustain relationships with health system partners, First Nations leadership, community programs, external healthcare organizations, and educational institutions to promote accountability and collaboration
· Plan and coordinate meetings, workshops, presentations, and community forums to foster dialogue, engagement, and knowledge-sharing on anti-racism initiatives
· Engage with community members to gather feedback, facilitate discussions, and ensure awareness and meaningful participation in initiatives
· Support the development and implementation of the Southern First Nations Anti-Racism Strategy, ensuring timely execution of deliverables and alignment with objectives
· Represent or support the Anti-Racism Project Manager in meetings, working groups, and related initiatives as required
· Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., Health Transformation) to integrate anti-racism practices into programs, services, and organizational initiatives
· Contribute to the development of evaluation frameworks, including tools, benchmarks, and metrics, to assess the effectiveness of anti-racism initiatives and their impact on Southern First Nations citizens
· Conduct research, literature reviews, and data analysis (quantitative and qualitative) to support strategy development, policy evaluation, and evidence-based decision-making
· Identify trends, risks, gaps, and opportunities to inform continuous improvement and strategic planning
· Develop and support resources, tools, and materials that enhance understanding and implementation of anti-racism initiatives
· Monitor progress and accountability by maintaining workplans, tracking deliverables, and preparing regular reports, including timelines and status updates
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
· An undergrad degree or certificate in a relevant field such as Social Sciences, Public Health, Indigenous Studies, or Community Development. Equivalent experience will be considered
· Two (2) years of experience in program or project coordination, ideally with a focus on anti-racism and/or health equity
· Experience in data analysis, reporting, program evaluation, or performance measurement in health or public‑sector environments
· Demonstrated understanding of the health challenges experienced by First Nations and a commitment to promoting equity and cultural safety
· Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities or Indigenous‑governed organizations
· Ability to synthesize information and insights to support informed decision-making and action
· Strong written communication skills with demonstrated ability to take comprehensive and organized notes and transform them into concise, actionable summaries
· Exceptional interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity, with a demonstrated ability to build trust and facilitate collaboration among diverse stakeholders
· Ability to manage competing deadlines, work independently, and handle confidential or sensitive information appropriately
· Proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Teams)
· Ability to speak Anishinaabe or Dakota languages an asset
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
· Must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector check
· A valid class 5 MB driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle for business travel
· If the employee is a member of a registered profession, they must be a member in good standing with their regulatory body
WAGE RANGE: $70,000 - $85,000 Annually
