Building Maintenance Worker

About the Role
The Building Maintenance Worker is essential to the daily well-being of our residents. You are responsible for ensuring that our housing facilities are safe, functional, and welcoming. This is a hands-on role for a "fixer" — someone who enjoys a variety of tasks, from troubleshooting systems to preparing a room for a new resident to move in.
What You’ll Do
- Systems Maintenance: Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- General Trades: Perform routine maintenance tasks including painting and drywall repair.
- Safety & Security: Perform daily inspections on building systems and maintain security and safety measures throughout the facility.
- Unit Preparation: Coordinate the preparation of housing units prior to the arrival of new residents, which may include moving furniture, equipment, and supplies.
- Logistics: Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment, making minor purchases as required, and respond to resident requests for minor repairs.
- Reporting: Contact your supervisor for any major needed repairs and perform other related duties as directed.
What We’re Looking For
- The "Fixer" Mindset: You have practical interest or experience in general maintenance (painting, plumbing, minor electrical) and a knack for troubleshooting.
- Observation Skills: You are proactive in spotting issues before they become emergencies during your daily building inspections.
- Empathy & Respect: You are comfortable working in a residential setting and interacting with youth residents with care and professionalism.
- Reliability: You are organized, can manage a supply inventory, and take pride in keeping a building running smoothly.
Eligibility (Canada Summer Jobs Program)
Applicants must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection
