Peter Lucas Project Management invests in people and community to provide gold standard project delivery. We are currently looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our team and support an underground gold mining operation near Kamloops, BC.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer with direct underground block cave mining experience who enjoys combining hands-on fieldwork with technical engineering. Working alongside Mine Operations, Mine Planning, Geology, and Technical Services, you will play a key role in ground control, mine development, rehabilitation, and geotechnical risk management.

The position offers a 7 days on / 7 days off rotation, providing a balance between challenging technical work and time away from site.

Responsibilities

• Conduct underground inspections, damage mapping, and geotechnical assessments to identify ground control hazards and support safe mining operations.
• Develop ground support designs, cablebolt layouts, rehabilitation plans, and geotechnical work packages.
• Provide geotechnical input into mine planning, development sequencing, and underground rehabilitation activities.
• Review mine designs, excavation layouts, and engineering drawings to identify risks and recommend appropriate ground control measures.
• Interpret geotechnical monitoring data, including convergence scans, instrumentation, and underground observations.
• Support the implementation and continuous improvement of Ground Control and Cave Management Plans.
• Assist with seismic risk management, stability assessments, and geotechnical investigations.
• Oversee ground support QA/QC activities, including installation verification and testing.
• Collaborate with underground crews, consultants, and technical teams to implement practical engineering solutions.

Salary: $140,000–$170,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Geological, Geotechnical, Mining, or a related Engineering discipline.

• Direct underground block cave mining experience is mandatory.
• Experience with underground ground control, geotechnical assessments, and ground support design.
• Knowledge of underground mine development, rehabilitation, and geotechnical risk management.
• Experience interpreting geotechnical monitoring data and conducting underground inspections.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with mine operations and technical teams.
• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC is preferred.
