Job Responsibility:

Position Goal

To provide exceptional therapeutic support to clients within an interdisciplinary team delivering the highest level of clinical care for individuals in inpatient treatment.

Position Summary, Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager of Clinical Services, the Addiction Counselor, is responsible for providing the overall programming for the treatment center including individual counselling, group facilitation and psychoeducational groups using various applied treatment modalities to address addiction and mental health challenges. A New Tomorrow Treatment Solutions supports both adult and youth divisions of practice to deliver exceptional treatment services to individuals recovering from substance misuse with an interdisciplinary team dedicated to transforming lives.

This position is responsible for the duties listed below in the areas of: Clinical Care, Supervision and Reporting, Team Building, Administration, and Leadership.

Clinical Care

o Lead for crisis management, critical incident stress debriefing, suicide risk assessment, threat assessment and conflict resolution.

o Provide family therapy in support of client's recovery using a variety of clinical modalities

o Incorporate First Nations culture and tradition into treatment programming through consultation with Indigenous Liaison and Indigenous partners

o Support development and implementation of Care Plan and review and re-evaluate as necessary

o Attend weekly care conferences with treatment team to review Care Plans

o Provide clinical direction and support to the larger team

o Build and maintain community partnerships collaborating to ensure wrap around services for clients

o Participate in program development in collaboration with entire clinical team

o Promote a client centered, strength based, trauma informed holistic approach to treatment

o Promote collaborative service delivery amongst clients and staff

o Participate in the development of Policy and Procedure and protocols and adhere to same

o Ensure commitment to confidentiality is maintained utilizing the guidelines of the Personal Information Act of BC

o Participate in client centered team meetings throughout all phases of treatment including intake and discharge

o Provide client support and advocacy in high conflict situations with resolution

o Take part in regular staff meetings to promote staff cohesiveness and to facilitate the dissemination of information

o Ensure a safe environment by identifying health & safety concerns both inside and outside the residences and reporting to Operations Manager in a timely manner

o Encourage clients to fully participate in all aspects of programming including recreational and cultural opportunities

o Present opportunities for clinical training and expand upon opportunities for growth

o Leverage the expertise and involvement of other managers to ensure the needs of the clients and staff are being met

o Provide recommendations to management team to strengthen policies and staffing

o Collaborate with leadership to ensure quality and seamless program delivery in the best interests of clients

· Other duties or tasks as assigned.

Supervision and Reporting

o Maintain client records, daily contact logs, Care Plans, Transition Plan and Discharge Summary

o Ensure staff provide detailed client documentation in accordance with standards

o Make certain that Reportable Incidents adhere to appropriate licensing and Assisted Living Registry standards

o Integrate and evaluate pertinent data from multiple sources and problem solve/make decisions

o Provide concise client progress notes from a clinical perspective

o Take part in clinical supervision with an open mind and willingness to participate freely

o Participate in annual performance review including development of professional goals accepting constructive criticism in spirit of performance improvement

o Take part in formal discipline process as required

o Maintain an open mind to coaching and mentoring

o Be open to reflection, debriefing and processing distressing thoughts and vicarious trauma

o Take part in training and opportunity for skill development and enhancement

· Other duties or tasks as assigned.

Team Building

o Build trust, open communication, innovation and creative strategies for the team in support of delivering exceptional treatment services

o Communicate accomplishments and successes, ongoing issues and develop resolutions to strengthen service delivery

o Liaise with co-workers in support of a team approach to service delivery promoting treatment direction

o Engage in team building opportunity to promote opportunities for enhancement of workplace culture

o Advocate for and support co-workers and clients

o Take part in problem solving, conflict resolution and collaboration with co-workers and clients

Qualifications

o Master's Degree in Social Work, Clinical Counselling or related discipline

o Demonstrate competencies as defined by the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction

o Addictions Care and Treatment Online Certificate

o Experience working with clients in addiction, mental health and recovery

o Excellent administrative, time management and organizational skills

o Current Class 5 driver's license

o Current CPR-HCP certification

o Self-motivated and capacity to work independently

o Criminal Record Check prior to commencing employment

o Naloxone Administration Certification

o Non Violent Crisis Intervention certification
