ABOUT SSCS:

Founded in 1978, Sea to Sky Community Services (SSCS) is one of BC's most respected and

established community service organizations. We operate within a large geographic area -

from Pemberton to Britannia Beach - supporting individuals and families living in the Sea to

Sky Corridor. We offer 41 programs and services, including early childhood development,

childcare, affordable housing, outreach, counselling, family support, seniors and youth

services, community living services and respite. We provide a range of services that support

our communities and residents through all ages and stages of their lives. Last year, SSCS

served 6500 individuals and families in our region.

Contribution:

The Occupational Therapist provides direct therapy services to children. Assesses, plans

and carries out individually designed programs of physical treatment appropriate to the

child's health requirements and daily living environment which are designed to help the

child live, play and work with optimum physical functioning. The Occupational Therapist

uses and promotes a family centred approach and mentors parents/caregivers in helpful

strategies for the child. The Occupational Therapist is a dedicated and knowledgeable

member of the comprehensive children's support team.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor degree in Occupational Therapy or combined Physical/Occupational

Therapy.

2. Registration with the College of Occupational Therapy of BC and eligible for

membership with the Canadian Occupational Therapy Association.

3. Paediatric experience (minimum one year preferred).

4. Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities:

A. Clinical

1. Conducts assessments of children, develops individualized treatment plans and

strategies based on the child's requirements and the daily living environment.

Provides ongoing support and evaluation. Initiates or supports referrals for additional

services from other professionals.

2. Organizes and participates in team meetings/case reviews and individual planning

sessions for children.

3. Maintains open and positive communication with parents, requests input and

participation of parents in the development of the child's programs. Meets with

parents regularly to discuss assessments and progress. Makes home visits. Assists

parents in advocating for programs and services they feel are in the best interest of

the child and their family.

4. Counsels, guides, teaches or assists families, teachers and others implementing

treatment plans and strategies and cautions on any physical limitations.

5. Recommends and/or provides splints, adapted equipment, self-care, play and

learning materials to the child/family, as appropriate.

6. Strives to maintain an awareness of developments in the field of paediatric

occupational therapy and participates actively in training opportunities on a regular

basis or as is deemed necessary.

B. Community

1. Participates as required in the transition process for children transferring to other

community programs to ensure a positive experience and continuity of service.

2. Liaises and works collaboratively with physicians, other professionals, therapists,

agencies and facilities including Ministry staff. Promotes a family centred approach

to case management. Promotes a well-coordinated team approach to agency and

inter-agency service delivery in the best interests of the family and the community.

3. Participates in relevant committees, working groups, associations, etc. as directed.

4. Provides information and education, individually or in group settings, to parents, co-

workers and the community, relating to prevention, early intervention, diagnosis and

treatments of various developmental delays and health conditions.

C. Administrative

1. Maintains records, documentation and reporting as outlined in the Program

Operating Manual.

2. Assists the Community Living Services Manager/Director with maintenance and

revision of the Program Operating Manual.

3. Other related duties as required.

Requirements:

1. Criminal Record Review.
