THE OPPORTUNITY

The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room works collaboratively as a member of the health care team. The RN will possess the theoretical knowledge and technical skills required to work in the peri-operative setting. The RN provides direct patient care to patients based on the three-factor framework as outlined in the College of Nurses of Ontario standard, RN and RPN Practice: The Client, Nurse and the Environment. These three factors have an impact on decision making related to care-provider assignment as well as the need for consultation and collaboration among care providers.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will possess the following key competencies, record of experience and academic preparation:

• Current certificate of registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Must be compliant with College of Nurses quality assurance standards
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.)
• Current ACLS and PALS Certification
• Excellent clinical, decision making and critical thinking skills
• Excellent verbal, written, communication and organizational skills
• OR Certification
• Current OR experience
• Proficient with IV starts/phlebotomy
• Experience in assisting with flexible scopes is an asset
• CSAO Course is an asset
• Canadian Perioperative Nursing Certification is an asset
• PACU experience is an asset
• Ability to adapt to change in a fast paced working environment
• Demonstrated ability to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to ensure positive patient outcomes
• Demonstrated leadership qualities, communication skills necessary to promote positive interdisciplinary team dynamics is an asset
• Demonstrated consistent punctuality and attendance record, maintaining a high level of reliability and commitment to performing duties with efficiency and effectiveness in previous roles
• Commitment to GBGH Values and Purpose Statement
• As a partially designated French speaking organization, French verbal and written communication skills are considered an asset in this position

COMPENSATION

• Hourly rate of pay $41.15 - $58.98, up to an additional 14% in lieu of benefits and 6% in lieu of vacation to start

HOURS OF WORK
Permanent Part Time. Must be available to work 8 and 12 hour day shifts. Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements and as per the ONA collective agreement.
