Director, Pharmacy Ops

The Director, Pharmacy Operations will oversee the operations of pharmacies in their region. The role involves coaching, developing, and training pharmacy teams while actively driving success and ensuring safe, effective practice that delivers exceptional patient care. The Director, Pharmacy Operations will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with pharmacy staff, key stakeholders, and management teams across the organization. This individual will provide leadership and operational support, ensuring pharmacy functions are aligned with corporate objectives and federal and provincial pharmacy regulations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Act as a liaison facilitating effective collaboration and communication with key stakeholders and ensuring that national pharmacy standards and processes are implemented and sustained.
  • Proactively plan weekly activities and store visits based on key business priorities.
  • Partner with Pharmacy Teams to share insights into the competitive landscape (market share, volumes, programs, promotions, pharmacy talent).
  • Monitor and review weekly projections and store labour management processes with Pharmacy Managers to ensure proper allocation of hours and task management.
  • Execute business initiatives and ensure pharmacies are equipped and prepared to implement, identifying gaps and reporting back to the program administrator.
  • Build relationships and partner with stakeholders, such as District Managers and Store Managers/Franchisees, to ensure appropriate knowledge and understanding of business initiatives and important pharmacy items.
  • Work closely with Store Managers/Franchisees/Labour Relations partners when dealing with disciplinary matters or other union-related issues, leveraging Pharmacy Managers as needed.
  • Collaborate with HR partners to actively build and manage talent, address underperformance, and participate in recruitment through interviews and candidate identification.
  • Support new pharmacy manager training, following up during the probationary period and thereafter to ensure successful onboarding.
  • Promote and support the execution of Patient Care Services and follow up on medication incidents.
  • Investigate and review critical financial metrics such as labour costs, inventory, and growth opportunities.
  • Maintain budget shrink initiatives, manage returns and credits to suppliers, transmittals, inventory, third‑party activities, and detailed dispensary operations follow‑up.
  • Ensure compliance with provincial and federal pharmacy regulations as well as standard operating procedures and policies.
  • Strive for continuous improvement in sales and script growth while maintaining a thorough understanding of the competitive landscape.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science, Pharmacy (or equivalent) considered an asset.
  • Licensed Pharmacist in the respective Province.
  • Registered Pharmacist with at least 5 years of experience in pharmacy operations or management.
  • 3–7 years of progressive, management‑related experience.
  • Solid understanding of the pharmacy landscape and retail industry.
  • Operational experience, preferably across multiple locations.
  • Excellent understanding of store processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and people‑management skills; ability to motivate a team.
  • Demonstrated skills in relationship building and influencing to achieve results.
  • Strong leadership, coaching and mentoring skills required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Regular travel required, often requiring overnight stays.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, challenging, and constantly changing work environment.

Hiring Range: $120,000.00–$154,000.00 per year. Compensation may be adjusted for candidate experience and regional location.
