Paladin Security is hiring casual Healthcare Security Guards at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). This position is a great opportunity for individuals looking to build a long-term career in the security industry while making a positive impact in their community. Successful candidates should have strong customer service skills, remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The role requires a strong focus on safety, professionalism, attention to detail, and providing respectful, family-centered service to patients, visitors, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for patients, families, staff, and visitors.
• Provide professional customer service, including wayfinding and general assistance.
• Conduct regular patrols of hospital buildings, heliports, parking areas, tunnels, and grounds.
• Monitor CCTV, access control systems, alarms, and other security equipment.
• Respond to medical emergencies, fire alarms, Code White, Code Silver, and other hospital emergency codes.
• Monitor heliport access and follow established landing and takeoff procedures.
• Control access to restricted areas and verify identification and authorization.
• Investigate and document security incidents, accidents, thefts, and property damage.
• Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support using a compassionate, patient-centered approach.
• Support clinical staff in maintaining a safe environment while respecting patient privacy and dignity.
• Coordinate with hospital departments and emergency services during incidents.
• Monitor visitor screening and support hospital safety policies and procedures.
• Assist with patient watches, high-risk patient monitoring, and missing-person investigations.
• Provide safety escorts and respond to security-related concerns.
• Maintain accurate occurrence reports, activity logs, and incident documentation.
• Support special events, VIP visits, emergency preparedness, evacuations, and disaster response.
• Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, compassion, and inclusion.

Requirements

• Valid security license for the province of Ontario
• Valid First Aid & CPR – Level C (from a WSIB-approved vendor)
• Proof of two (2) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine
• Immunization records for mumps, measles, rubella, and varicella and a completed two-step TB skin test
• Clean shaven face in order to pass an N95 mask fit test
• Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and,Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
• Applicants without these certifications may enroll in Paladin’s UOF/MOAB certification program prior to onboarding
• Training costs are covered by Paladin with a 6-month commitment (training time is unpaid)
