The Auditory Outreach Provincial Resource Program requires a 0.40 FTE Teacher of the d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing, commencing September 8, 2026.
Term: Temporary until further notice, or June 30, 2027.
Location: Remote, Travel required throughout B.C.

About Us
The Auditory Outreach Provincial Resource Program is funded by the British Columbia Ministry of Education and Childcare and hosted by School District 47 (qathet). In collaboration with Provincial Centers, public health audiologists and other service providers, Auditory Outreach assists public and independent schools throughout the province address the needs of school-aged students. The program loans assistive listening devices for individual students with hearing loss identified as needing this technology for school use. In addition to equipment loans and services, we offer audiology, speech-language pathology, and teacher of the d/Deaf and hard of hearing expertise and consultation. Auditory Outreach services include virtual and in-person consultation for school teams and parents of students with cochlear implants to best support their unique skills and learning needs at school.
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Teacher of the d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a background and interest in working with students who are d/Deaf or hard of hearing, knowledge of cochlear implants, and willingness to share expertise in a supportive manner with school teams, administrators, families, students, and other team members.
Responsibilities
- Provide education, training, workshops, presentations and resources to professionals, colleagues, families, and administrators.
- Plan and implement virtual group intervention sessions for students with cochlear implants based on evidence-based practice.
- Research, learn and evaluate new technology and software options and support students and teachers to effectively implement use of this technology in the classroom.
- Collaborate with school teams, audiologists, parents, administrators, and other professionals to identify and meet the unique needs of students with cochlear implants.
- Conduct comprehensive formal and informal assessments to evaluate hearing, listening, learning, and communication skills.
- Support school teams to identify long-term and short-term communication goals, including IEP support, and learning strategies.
- Promotion of inclusion and advocacy for students who have cochlear implants in school environments.
- Advise school teams regarding best practice use of assistive listening equipment and support for implementation and classroom use.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, treatment sessions, and progress reports.
- Produce a variety of print resources, presentations, and lessons to educate and share with school teams, students, families, and community partners.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master's degree in d/Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education from an accredited program.
- Must be a member or be eligible to be a member of the Canadian Association of Educators of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (CAEDHH).
- Experience working with children who are d/Deaf and hard of hearing, with preference given to applicants with knowledge of cochlear implants.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with professionals, families, and community teams.
- Confident to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team.
- Able to travel throughout British Columbia.
- Demonstrate advanced competencies in report writing and assessments.
- Possess a valid driver's license and vehicle.
- Proficient or learning American Sign Language.

Salary: The annual salary for this teaching position ranges from $65,155 to $116,190 at 1.0 FTE, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications, in accordance with the collective agreement.
