Operations Manager

The Operations Manager plays a key role in supporting safe, efficient, and reliable site operations by overseeing the Denison managed assets and service contracts. The role is responsible for ensuring that camp and site systems operate effectively, which includes the temporary camps, camp services, utilities, critical infrastructure, and related contractor performance. He or she ensures that operational activities are managed with strong safety practices, and a commitment to continuous improvement in support of the organization’s strategic objectives. This is a rotational, site-based role based in Northern Saskatchewan.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide on site leadership and supervision to camp and site operations personnel, including Site Services and Utilities Supervisors, Camp Leads, and Water Treatment personnel.
- Oversight of operations contractors under the Camp Lead function, including ACLP (camp catering contract) and Athabasca Basin Security (security contract), ensuring contractual obligations, service standards, and safety requirements are met.
- Coordinate with the Site Services and Utilities Supervisor on maintenance contractor oversight, including Accurate Industries, and support contractor performance management, work planning, and issue resolution as required.
- Provide oversight of key camp assets and systems at the Williams Lake Camp Complex, including the fire detection and suppression system, propane distribution system, camp generators and electrical systems, potable water treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant, and Legacy Wheeler River Camp assets.
- Manage the Phoenix Construction Camp, a 150-person temporary camp at the Phoenix Site, as a turnkey camp solution by administering the contract and contractor performance.
- Oversee the management of the 30-person temporary camp for Gryphon as a turnkey camp solution, ensuring the camp contractor is responsible for all operations, maintenance, and related services.
- Oversee the refrigeration plant once operational, including monitoring performance, coordinating maintenance requirements, and ensuring safe and reliable operation.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements and promote a strong safety culture across all site operations and contractor activities.
- Develop and implement operational procedures and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reliability of site and camp operations.
- Monitor camp and operational budgets, approve expenditures within authority, and identify opportunities for cost optimization.
- Manage emergency preparedness plans related to camp operations, utilities, and critical systems, and participate in emergency response activities as required.
Requirements
You are an experienced operations leader with a strong background supporting remote site operations in the mining, operations, or resource sectors. You are comfortable leading diverse teams, managing contractors, and overseeing critical site infrastructure while maintaining a strong focus on safety, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. Additional qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or relevant technical field; or college diploma or skilled tradesperson with relevant experience will be considered.
- Minimum 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in site services, utilities, camp operations or remote workforce management, preferably within the mining, construction, or resource sectors.
- Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience with camp utilities, including water treatment, wastewater treatment, electrical systems, propane systems, and critical camp infrastructure is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety requirements, emergency response practices, and contractor oversight.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using operational or workforce management systems is considered an asset.
