Permanent Teaching Position eligibility:

Teacher of the Blind /Low Vision report to the Superintendent of Inclusive Student Services and directly to the Inclusive Student Services System Lead

1.0 SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER / TEACHER OF THE BLIND/LOW VISION (ITINERANT)

The Vision Resource Teacher is responsible to the Superintendent of Education/Inclusive Student Services and to the Special Education System Lead and shall carry out the following responsibilities:

• Serve as a member of a team of centrally assigned, teacher of the blind/low vision (itinerant)
• Provide direct service for students who require instructions in vision technology, auditory, tactile, Braille, and alternate formats
• Provide consultation for school teams on accommodations, modifications and alternative goals for individual students
• Work in direct partnership with in-school staff as well as area and central team staff to support deafblind and blind/low vision
• Provide assessment and programming and assist in the identification, placement, and review process
• Provide expertise and professional development in area of education of the deafblind and blind/low vision
• Assist the team in the co-ordination of regional resources for deafblind and blind/low vision
• Provide resource expertise to parents and community organizations
• Assume such other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Experience teaching students who are blind/low vision
• Experience teaching students who are deafblind
• Special Education Specialist
• Proficiency in human relations, organization, assessment and instructional strategies
• A minimum of intermediate level braille or willingness to receive qualifications.
