Accounting Supervisor

Iris Galerie Canada Inc. is seeking an experienced Accounting Supervisor to oversee daily accounting operations, supervise accounting support staff and strengthen the financial procedures supporting its multi-location and cross-border activities.

Responsibilities

The Accounting Supervisor will:
  • Coordinate, assign, schedule and review the work of accounting clerks responsible for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll administration, expense records and related financial transactions.
  • Verify the accuracy, completeness and coding of invoices, payments, credits, refunds, payroll information and other accounting records.
  • Approve routine financial transactions within established authority limits.
  • Supervise vendor invoice processing, payment runs, customer invoicing, collections and account reconciliations.
  • Monitor bank transactions, cash movements and balances associated with multiple operating locations.
  • Establish and maintain monthly accounting schedules, closing procedures and internal deadlines.
  • Review bank, payroll, tax, intercompany and other balance-sheet reconciliations.
  • Review accruals, prepaid expenses and adjusting entries and ensure that supporting documentation is complete.
  • Prepare and review monthly statements, expense and income reports, location-level operating reports and other reports required by management.
  • Coordinate payroll accounting, including the accounting treatment of commissions, bonuses, tips and employee expense reimbursements.
  • Monitor GST/HST, payroll remittances, sales-tax records and other recurring government compliance requirements.
  • Maintain appropriate accounting documentation for Canadian and United States entities and coordinate with external accountants and tax advisers.
  • Establish, document and improve accounting workflows, verification procedures, approval controls and standardized operating procedures.
  • Participate in the implementation, configuration and improvement of accounting software, ERP systems and computerized tracking tools.
  • Identify accounting or control deficiencies and recommend corrective measures.
  • Resolve work-related accounting problems and provide technical guidance to accounting and administrative staff.
  • Identify training needs and train employees in accounting procedures, internal controls, software systems and company policies.
  • Coordinate accounting activities with operations, human resources, management, banks, auditors, landlords and external professional advisers.
  • Perform accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and bookkeeping duties directly when required to address workload or operational bottlenecks.
  • Ensure the secure and efficient operation of accounting systems and arrange technical support when necessary.

Job Requirements:

Mandatory qualifications

Applicants must have:
  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or a closely related field.
  • At least three years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating, assigning and reviewing the work of accounting or bookkeeping staff.
  • Substantial hands-on experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll accounting, bank reconciliations and month-end procedures.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing monthly financial statements, expense and income reports and management accounting reports.
  • Experience establishing or materially improving accounting procedures, verification processes or internal financial controls.
  • Experience working with accounting operations involving multiple locations, legal entities or business units.
  • Practical knowledge of Canadian GST/HST, payroll remittances and related accounting compliance requirements.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software such as QuickBooks.
  • Experience using or implementing an ERP or integrated accounting system.
  • Ability to perform both supervisory and detailed transactional accounting duties.
  • Strong analytical ability, accuracy, judgment, organization and written communication skills.
  • Experience with multi-location retail, hospitality, consumer-service or similar high-volume operations.
Assets
  • CPA designation or recognized international professional accounting designation.
  • Certification such as CRMA, CFE or a comparable risk-management, internal-audit or fraud-examination credential.
  • Experience with Odoo, Avalara or comparable ERP and sales-tax systems.
  • Experience implementing accounting automation and standardized procedures across multiple locations.
  • Experience liaising with external accountants, auditors, tax advisers, financial institutions and senior management.
  • Experience supporting accounting operations involving both Canadian and United States entities.
  • A recognized professional accounting designation obtained in Canada or another jurisdiction.
  • Formal professional training or certification in internal controls, internal audit, enterprise risk management or fraud prevention.
