Part-Time Weekend Senior Companion – Oakville, Ontario Position: Senior Companion / Personal Companion Location: Long-Term Care Home, Oakville, Ontario Schedule: Saturdays and Sundays, 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM Hours: 9 hours per week Compensation: To be discussed based on experience. About the Position We are looking for a kind, compassionate, patient, and dependable individual to spend time with our mother, who resides in a long-term care home in Oakville, Ontario. We are seeking someone who genuinely enjoys spending time with seniors and can provide companionship, meaningful conversation, social interaction when she wants, and attentive support in a warm and caring manner. Our mother has good days when she enjoys conversation and social interaction, as well as days when she may not feel as well and requires additional attention, patience, understanding, and a more caring approach. We are looking for someone who is sensitive to her changing needs and can adapt accordingly, providing comfort, reassurance, and companionship when she needs it most. We hope to find someone who will develop a genuine connection with our mother and make her weekends more enjoyable, engaging, and meaningful. Language Requirements Our mother's native language is Italian, although she also speaks English. Ideally, we would love to find someone who speaks Italian so she can enjoy conversation and communicate in her native language. We are also open to candidates who speak Spanish, as Italian and Spanish share many linguistic similarities. A Spanish-speaking candidate with a good understanding of English and the ability to communicate comfortably with our mother would also be considered. A good command of spoken English is important for communication with the family and long-term care home staff. Italian is preferred, but Spanish-speaking candidates are also encouraged to apply. Responsibilities

• Provide friendly companionship and meaningful conversation.
• Spend quality time with our mother through social interaction and enjoyable activities.
• Encourage engagement and participation in activities, as appropriate.
• Accompany her on walks or outings within the care home, as appropriate.
• Be attentive to her changing moods, energy levels, and needs.
• Provide additional patience, reassurance, and caring attention on days when she isn't feeling her best.
• Help create a positive, comfortable, and enjoyable weekend experience.
• Support her in little ways like helping her with the TV remote etc. etc.
• Communicate any concerns or observations to the family.
• Positioning her as required

Qualifications and Personal Attributes

• Previous experience working with seniors is preferred.
• Italian-speaking candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Spanish-speaking candidates are also welcome.
• Good command of spoken English.
• Warm, patient, empathetic, and compassionate personality.
• Reliable, punctual, trustworthy, and responsible.
• Comfortable interacting with seniors in a long-term care home environment.
• Someone who is genuinely interested in building a positive and caring relationship with our mother.

Schedule

• Saturday: 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM
• Sunday: 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Consistent weekend availability is important. Compensation Compensation will be discussed based on the candidate's experience and qualifications. Approximate hourly wages from $21 to $ 23 per hour.
