Camp Counsellor

$17.6 - $19.85 per hour

Accountabilities

  • Implement day-to-day operations of the program, including recreational games, crafts, Bible lessons, and other scheduled events.
  • Supervise, interact with, and support all day camp campers.
  • Work cooperatively with the Business Manager, Community Services Coordinator, and Directors in all aspects of the summer day camp program.
  • Participate in the Summer Day Camp mentoring program for staff and campers.
  • Perform other relevant duties such as set-up and camp cleanup.
  • Ensure the highest standard of health and safety for campers, volunteers, and staff.
  • Assist with the emotional wellness and personal development of campers.
  • Work in compliance with the OH&S Act, regulations, and The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Support campers to develop socially, mentally, and spiritually.
  • Act in cases of urgency or emergency in alignment with camp policies and procedures.

Working Conditions

  • Temporary, full-time position: 37.5 hours per week for 2 weeks.
  • Required to complete The Salvation Army Camp Training.
  • Day camp setting, indoor and outdoor, generally agreeable conditions.
  • Exposure to tantrums and noise.
  • Ability to lift/move up to 29 lbs.; reach, bend, and stoop frequently.
  • Standing position for long periods of time.
  • Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
  • Some flexibility in scheduling may be required.

Education, Qualifications & Certifications

  • Completed a minimum of Nine (9) years of education.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership, planning, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt to change, learn quickly, and use initiative.
  • Integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and good judgement.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills working cooperatively, patiently, and effectively.
  • Ability to support camp staff with children’s individual behavioral needs.
  • Creative and innovative mindset with initiative.
  • Team‑player who can work independently.
  • Compliant with all Salvation Army policies and legislation.
  • Enthusiastic, approachable, problem‑solver, good listener, servant‑hearted, and willing to grow.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $19.85 per hour, with a maximum of $23.82 per hour, adjusted based on market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience.
