Sommelier

Full-time

Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse

Job Opportunity: Sommelier

Company: Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse

Location: Toronto, ON

Position Type: Full-Time

About Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse

Jacobs & Co. Steakhouse blends the timeless allure of a classic steakhouse with a sleek, contemporary gastronomic experience. Renowned for our on-site dry-aging program, impeccable table-side service, and an uncompromising dedication to hospitality, we are incredibly proud to be named one of the World’s 101 Best Steakhouses.

Central to our award-winning guest experience is our world-class, deeply extensive wine program. We curate a cellar that spans the globe's finest terroirs, iconic vintages, and hidden gems, specifically tailored to complement our premier cuts of beef. We are currently seeking a passionate, knowledgeable, and sophisticated Sommelier to join our elite hospitality team.

The Role

As a Sommelier at Jacobs & Co., you will do much more than pour wine; you will curate unforgettable sensory experiences. You will guide our discerning guests through our massive, diverse wine list, translating their preferences into perfect pairings. You will work closely with our culinary and management teams to maintain the integrity, organization, and profitability of our cellar.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guest Engagement: Provide expert, approachable, and personalized wine recommendations and pairings to guests, elevating their dining experience.

  • Cellar Management: Assist in the inventory management, organization, stocking, and proper storage of our extensive wine collection.

  • Service Excellence: Ensure seamless wine service (including proper decanting, glassware selection, and temperature control) in accordance with fine dining standards.

  • Team Education: Conduct regular staff training and briefings to enhance the wine knowledge of our service team.

  • Sales Driven: Maximize beverage revenue by confidently promoting premium selections, allocated bottles, and curated pairings.

What We Are Looking For

  • Upscale Experience: A minimum of 3–5 years of experience working as a Sommelier or Wine Steward in a high-volume, upscale, fine-dining, or luxury hotel environment.

  • Credentials: Court of Master Sommeliers (Certified level or higher), WSET (Level 3 or higher), or equivalent recognized sommelier certification is highly preferred.

  • Extensive Knowledge: Deep, comprehensive knowledge of global wine regions, varietals, vintages, and spirits, with a specific mastery of bold reds and classic pairings that complement a premium steakhouse menu.

  • Poise & Presence: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. You possess the ability to read a table, connecting just as easily with a casual wine enthusiast as you do with an avid collector.

  • Floorsmith Mentality: A humble, team-first attitude. You are willing to run food, clear tables, and support the service floor whenever necessary to ensure a flawless guest experience.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary and a highly lucrative gratuity structure.

  • Access to one of the most prestigious and comprehensive wine cellars in the country.

  • A dynamic, professional, and supportive work environment.

  • Opportunities for continuous learning, tastings, and professional development.

  • Employee dining discounts.

To Apply

If you are a dedicated wine professional ready to take the next step in your career with a globally recognized steakhouse, we want to hear from you.
