Mine Site Controller

Job Responsibility:

This position is responsible for accurate and timely internal cost and operational reporting, forecasting, budgeting and analysis thereby ensuring all reporting deadlines are met and accounting records are maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and corporate policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES & PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

• Develop, analyze and provide internal reports addressing actual vs. budget/prior period variances and trend analysis used to support financial and operational management decisions.
• Co-ordinate information requirements between the finance department and the operating departments.
• Co-ordinate mine site month end process and insure all inputs, including accruals from the operating departments are submitted and recorded accurately and on a timely basis.
• Manage the Mine Site administration of Pay & Benefits, Procurement and Warehousing.
• Prepare and record journal entries, analyze internal costs and reconcile general ledger accounts.
• Maintain internal controls and identify and correct internal control weaknesses.
• Responsible for fixed asset accounting, external audit schedule preparation and various government reporting.
• In conjunction with Engineering, Processing and Marketing departments, reconcile and record coal inventory movements.
• Other responsibilities as required or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

A University Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting and completion or pursuit of a formal accounting designation (CGA, CMA, CA).

Experience

Three to five years accounting experience, preferably in a mining setting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Sound knowledge of accounts payable, payroll and general accounting systems and functions.
• Above average computer skills and an excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Sound understanding of cost analysis, reconciliation, budgeting and forecasting processes.
• Good understanding of GAAP, internal controls and mining business processes.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to analyze and resolve complex problems in a logical manner.
• Ability to work independently, multi-task, prioritize effectively and work within tight deadlines.
• Ability to identify with, and strictly adhere to, confidentiality standards at all times.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The incumbent works at the CST Coal Mine Site Office in Grande Cache, AB. There is no remote work opportunity . The incumbent is in an office setting approximately 100% of the time and deals with employees, management and external suppliers and contacts. Stress can arise from working on tight timelines. As a condition of employment, the incumbent is required to comply with pre and post employment drug and alcohol testing as per the Drug and Alcohol Policy. As required, personal protective equipment will include the use of an approved hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe boots, hearing protection, clothing and gloves. Some travel may be required.
