Role and Facility Information

The University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC) is seeking an Anesthesiologist to fill a vacancy within the department.

The hospital has an accredited level 3 trauma unit and the Intensive Care Unit is an integral part of this. The Northern Simulation Centre is housed within the Hospital and is an opportunity for those wishing to get involved in Sim‑Lab. Join our robust team of Anesthesiologists and regular locums!

The Department of Anesthesia at UHNBC provides anesthetic services to a wide range of surgical specialties such as:

• General surgery – Whipple’s procedure and Esophagectomy
• Urology
• Orthopaedic
• Plastic
• ENT
• Obstetrics & Gynecology
• Ophthalmology
• 24‑hour Epidural Service
• Vascular surgery

The current on‑call commitment is approximately 1 in 8. The department works on an Alternative Payment arrangement, and we estimate that a conservative base remuneration for a full time Anesthetist would be approximately $500,000. The current expectation for a full time, 1.0 FTE Anesthetist is 1997 hours per annum.

UHNBC is the Regional Hospital for Northern BC serving the population of Prince George and surrounding communities. It is a teaching center for UBC medical students and residents. The hospital also hosts the BC Cancer Centre for the North.
