Position Summary
The Senior Manager of Philanthropy is a key member of Harvest Manitoba's Development Team, with a primary focus on securing philanthropic support through strategic relationship-building, major gifts fundraising, and donor stewardship. While collaboration across departments is part of the role, the emphasis is on developing and managing a pipeline of donors, cultivating meaningful connections, and contributing to long-term revenue growth. Key responsibilities include identifying and engaging prospective donors, making personalized solicitations, and ensuring thoughtful stewardship practices are in place to foster lasting support. The Senior Manager plays an important role in maintaining donor records, preparing fundraising reports, and supporting campaign planning and execution.
This position also contributes to internal capacity-building by mentoring, monitoring and supervising development team members, help to refine fundraising strategies, and strengthening systems that support donor engagement. The Senior Manager of Philanthropy works closely with the Director of Partnerships and Development to align efforts with organizational goals and to ensure the Development Team is equipped to deliver results.

Key Responsibilities
1. Donor Portfolio Management
- Conduct through in-depth prospect research to identify new major gift opportunities, ensuring a strong pipeline of future donors.
- Create tailored cultivation and solicitation strategies based on donor interests, giving history,
- and philanthropic potential.
- Proactively manage a dynamic portfolio of donors and prospects with the capacity for significant philanthropic support.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop compelling cases for support, proposals, and impact reports.
2. Fundraising Strategy & Execution
- Design and implement annual and multi-year giving strategies aligned with Harvest Manitoba's strategic priorities.
- Develop tailored proposals and strategic donor communications for major and legacy giving, incorporating options like Gifts of Securities, bequests, donor-advised funds, and other planned giving vehicles.
- Set and track performance benchmarks, including number of touchpoints, visit goals, solicitations, and closed gifts.
- Collaborate with the Director of Partnership & Development, to align major gift efforts with broader organizational campaigns and initiatives.
3. Donor Stewardship & Engagement
- Ensure exceptional donor experiences through thoughtful, timely stewardship that demonstrates impact and reinforces donor value.
- Develop and deliver impact reports, recognition plans, and meaningful touchpoints throughout the year.
- Coordinate with the Development team to host donor events, behind-the-scenes experiences, and personalized engagement opportunities.
4. Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Collaborate with the Director of Partnership & Development to recruit, onboard, and develop new team members, ensuring they are equipped to thrive and contribute meaningfully to Harvest Manitoba's fundraising goals.
- Support onboarding and skill development in areas such as donor communications, database use, stewardship, and solicitation strategy.
- Foster a team culture grounded in collaboration, accountability, continuous learning, and donor-centered practice.
5. Internal & External Collaboration
- Partner with other team members to understand impact stories and outcomes that inform compelling fundraising narratives.
- Work closely with the marketing and communications team to align messaging, donor touchpoints, and campaign visibility.
- Engage with the Director of Partnership & Development, senior leaders, board members, and other stakeholders to leverage their networks and involvement in fundraising efforts.
6. Data & Systems Management
- Maintain timely and accurate records of all donor interactions, moves management steps, and gift documentation in the CRM (e.g. Donor Perfect).
- Analyze donor data and portfolio performance to inform strategic decisions and adapt tactics as needed.
- Ensure compliance with fundraising best practices, donor confidentiality, and CRA requirements for receipting and gift processing.

Qualifications & Experience
- A post-secondary degree in marketing, communications, fundraising, or a related discipline is preferred; a combination of equivalent education and practical experience
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in fundraising or a similar relationship-based role, with a proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets.
- Demonstrated success in managing and growing a portfolio of donors or clients, with a deep understanding of relationship management best practices.
- Demonstrated experience supervising or mentoring development or fundraising staff.
- Strong strategic planning, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- A natural relationship-builder who thrives in proactive outreach and meaningful engagement with prospects, partners and other stakeholders.
- Experience with donor databases and CRM systems (e.g. Donor Perfect).
- CFRE designation or equivalent experience is an asset.
- Knowledge of planned/legacy giving and fundraising in the social impact or nonprofit sector is a plus.
