Job Responsibility:

Please note this role will work in a hybrid environment. The successful candidate will be working in one of our site offices across Canada with a mixture of on and off-site work based on the parameters for our operations to meet the needs of our donors, our staff and our communities. Currently, employees are expected to have an in-person presence for at least 40% of their work time. This requirement is subject to change, based on operational needs.

About the role Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Regular full-time Business Intelligence Product Developer to join our dynamic IT Internal Customer Experience team. The IT Internal Customer Experience team is responsible for ensuring a positive and seamless experience for internal users within Canadian Blood Services who interact with IT services and systems. Reporting to the Associate Director of the Data & Analytics Center for Excellence, you will create data products such as reports, dashboards and interactive visualizations that meet the needs of a variety of user groups including casual users of data, power users, and executives. In addition to that, you will apply systems thinking (i.e. the intersection of data, technology and people) to resolve or improve complex business challenges and opportunities.

Formula for success

• Leveraging your skills in experience in Business Intelligence (BI), you will be responsible for developing, deploying, and maintaining BI solutions such as query tools, data visualization and interactive dashboards, ad hoc reports, and data modeling tools. In addition, you will work with data warehouses, data integration services and data models to create solutions that support business decision making, measure business results, and communicate performance outcomes.
• Harnessing your ability for design, you will protype and design new web and mobile data solutions for use by internal Canadian Blood Services employees across the entire enterprise.
• Utilizing your excellent collaboration skills, you will support constructive working relationships to ensure strong business support for the Data & Analytics Centre of Excellence.
• Capitalizing on your excellent problem solving capabilities, you will identify and diagnose data product usability issues by responding professionally to customer inquiries.
• Leveraging your analytical skills, you will promote analytic usage and skills among management and employees through training, mentoring, and the selection of appropriate analytics tools and you will provide analytics results directly to business users, identifying trends and insights.
• Utilizing your excellent collaboration skills, you will support constructive working relationships to ensure strong business support for the Data & Analytics Centre of Excellence.

Desired education and skills

• Post-secondary level education in a relevant discipline from a recognized academic institution, preferably a University Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Statistics, or equivalent.
• Minimum three to five years of experience as an application developer or business intelligence analyst and a minimum three to five years of combined experience with data processing and application development.
• Proven ability and continued desire to learn new IT skills in a fast-paced, dynamic, and challenging environment with the goal of delivering a great customer experience.
• Competent in effectively managing conflicting priorities and adeptly handling high-pressure situations.
• Exceptional communication skills, encompassing persuasive writing and engaging presentation techniques, tailored to resonate with diverse internal audiences.

What you can expect

• This role will work in a hybrid environment with requirements to be onsite at a Canadian Blood Services location 40% of the time/2 days of the week.
• You will work Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, 7.5 hours per day.
• If you are located outside of Ottawa, you may be expected to travel to our office location in Ottawa - 2540 Lancaster Rd, quarterly for in-person team meetings when required.
