Summary
Small's Expediting Ltd. and TerrX Freight Lines are seeking a motivated and experienced Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our growing team in Whitehorse, Yukon.
The successful candidate will be responsible for preventative maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and fleet support for a diverse group of highway tractors, trailers, heavy equipment, and support vehicles. This role requires strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely and independently in a fast-paced transportation and logistics environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy trucks, trailers, and equipment
- Perform preventative maintenance services and inspections
- Complete and maintain accurate repair orders and service documentation
- Conduct and document PMVI inspections in accordance with Yukon regulations
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and air brake systems
- Source parts and supplies while maintaining cost awareness
- Maintain shop cleanliness and safe working conditions
- Communicate repair status and major repair requirements with management
- Follow lock-out/tag-out and all company safety procedures
- Road test and inspect equipment for proper operation after repairs
- Participate in after-hours or emergency repair work as required
- Assist with fleet reliability and minimizing equipment downtime
- Travel to breakdowns or remote work sites may occasionally be required
Candidate Requirements
- Valid Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic Certification required
- Minimum 5 years of heavy-duty mechanic experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, diagnostics, hydraulics, and electrical systems
- Experience with highway tractors and trailers considered a strong asset
- CVIP / PMVI inspection certification considered an asset
- Welding and fabrication experience considered an asset
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License required
- Class 1 Driver’s License considered a strong asset
- Clean Driver’s Abstract required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Language of Work: English
- Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and occasional on-call shifts when required
