Dietitian

The Opportunity 

Glen Haven Manor Corporation is seeking a  Dietitian  to join its leadership team. Reporting to the Administrator, the Dietitian provides clinical nutrition leadership and oversight for all aspects of Nutritional Services within the facility. This role is responsible for assessing resident nutritional needs, developing and monitoring nutrition care plans, overseeing menu planning and therapeutic diets, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting high-quality resident-centered care. The Dietitian collaborates closely with nursing, support services, residents, families, and interdisciplinary team members to promote optimal nutritional health and resident satisfaction. 

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the successful candidate will contribute to strategic planning initiatives, quality improvement programs, departmental leadership, and organizational objectives while fostering a positive and collaborative culture focused on excellence in care. 

Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Assess the clinical nutritional needs of residents upon admission and complete ongoing evaluations, annual reviews, and reassessments as required. 

  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized nutrition care plans. 

  • Recommend therapeutic diets, oral nutritional supplements, texture modifications, and other nutrition interventions as appropriate. 

  • Plan, organize, review, and revise menus to ensure compliance with Canada's Food Guide and therapeutic diet requirements. 

  • Participate in resident care conferences and contribute to interdisciplinary care planning. 

  • Collaborate with nursing staff, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated nutritional support for residents. 

  • Educate residents, families, and staff on nutrition-related topics and best practices. 

  • Provide leadership and oversight to Nutritional Services staff and departmental operations. 

  • Establish performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and support staff development through coaching and mentorship. 

  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives and organizational improvement projects. 

  • Develop, implement, and maintain departmental policies, procedures, and best practices. 

  • Monitor departmental compliance with professional, regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards. 

  • Conduct audits, inspections, and quality assurance activities to identify opportunities for improvement and implement corrective actions when required. 

  • Foster collaborative relationships across departments to support resident care and operational effectiveness. 

  • Participate in committees, quality initiatives, and organizational projects aimed at enhancing resident outcomes and service delivery. 

  • Support public relations and community engagement activities as required. 

  • Promote a positive, resident-focused culture and ensure exceptional service delivery within Nutritional Services. 

  • Ensure safe work practices and infection prevention and control standards are consistently maintained. 

Qualifications & Experience: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Applied Human Nutrition (Dietetics) or Nutrition Major. 

  • Completion of an approved Dietetic Internship Program. 

  • Professional registration with the Nova Scotia Regulator of Dietetics (NSRD) and/or membership in a recognized professional dietetic association. 

  • Management or Leadership Certificate considered an asset. 

  • Minimum three years of senior leadership experience in a healthcare environment, preferably within long-term care, or five years of nutrition management experience leading medium to large teams. 

  • Demonstrated experience in labour relations and applying collective agreements. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 

  • Experience with strategic planning considered an asset. 

  • Strong knowledge of clinical nutrition, therapeutic diets, food service operations, quality improvement, and healthcare regulations. 

  • Excellent communication, leadership, coaching, conflict resolution, and relationship-building skills. 

  • Strong organizational, time management, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities. 

  • Ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team environment. 

  • Demonstrated commitment to professionalism, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
