Salary
Step 1: $111,072 to Step 10: $158,704. The successful candidate will be placed at the appropriate step within the salary grade/band, based on relevant years of experience and other applicable considerations.

Our central role includes managing the provincial power grid in real‑time, overseeing and evolving Ontario’s electricity market, engaging with government, municipalities and Indigenous communities, and planning for Ontario’s future electricity needs. This is a unionized position that falls within the Integrated Conservation Planning team, part of the Demand & Conservation Planning department, Resource Planning division, and Power System Development business unit.

What you’ll do
- Lead and support research projects advancing IESO demand forecasting and eDSM program activities, such as Achievable Potential Studies, end use surveys, and technology‑ or subsector‑specific research.
- Lead or support delivery of critical inputs for regional planning and Non‑Wires Analysis, specifically station‑level planned eDSM savings forecasts, additional eDSM potential estimates, and hourly demand forecasts.
- Identify and implement process automation and analysis enhancement opportunities using Python programming.
- Run the new eDSM Achievable Potential Study tool to produce new scenarios and sensitivities to meet IESO and policy maker’s evolving needs.
- Support the development of climate‑adjusted weather files to better account for climate change in the IESO’s long‑term demand forecasts.
- Mentor, advise and guide junior and less experienced staff. Set and manage quality control and review of work and products of junior planning staff.
- Execute other duties and responsibilities as required.
Typical day
Engage with your colleagues on the Integrated Conservation Planning team (Supervisor, two Senior Planners and one‑to‑two co‑op students) and other colleagues across the Resource Planning, Transmission Planning, Demand Side Management, and Partnerships, Research & Sustainability divisions. Occasionally engage with external parties including the Ontario Energy Board, Ministry of Energy & Mines, Enbridge Gas, electricity Local Distribution Companies, and various consultants and vendors. Your time is likely to be divided between delivering personal work items, providing direction and oversight to more junior staff, and being consulted by other IESO divisions.
This is a promotion‑in‑place (PIP) affected role. Candidates with lesser qualifications will be considered for a Power System Planning Analyst role.
Role Requirements
- A university degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Economics, Planning or other relevant discipline is required. A curriculum or experience that includes exposure to power systems, electrical theory, power system analysis and equipment, energy systems and conversion, mathematics, statistics or economic analysis is preferred.
- 6–8 years of experience in a power system planning or operation or analytical studies related to integrated planning is typically required. Experience in the Ontario electricity sector is preferred.
- Experience with end use modelling and demand forecasting is strongly preferred.
- A basic understanding of electricity Demand Side Management is required, experience is preferred.
- Experience programming and developing code in Python is required.
- Experience with data visualization in Tableau is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Strong interpersonal skills are required.
