THE OPPORTUNITY

This unique opportunity will appeal to someone who has an extensive leadership background in management and operations in administration, supervision, and delivery of programs and services for the Lands, Resources and Heritage Department. The responsibilities include strategic planning, operational plans, budget management, implementation of the lands, natural resources and heritage provisions of the Self-Government Agreements; development of legislation/ regulations, policies and procedures; contract management; contributions to project assessments; working with advisory and technical committees; and community engagement. The incumbent is responsible for providing management support to department Managers with respect to: FNNND land strategy; land use planning; environmental protection; fish and wildlife management; heritage resources management; and technical support services.

QUALIFICATIONS

The required education and training are normally obtained through completion of a degree in Resource/ Land Management or Indigenous Studies with training in financial and human resources management. A combination of education and experience will be considered. This will be supplemented by extensive experience in leadership and management, preferably in a First Nations environment.

You will have a thorough knowledge of renewable resources, land environmental assessment and heritage resources management. Demonstrated knowledge of Yukon First Nations and FNNND history, culture, traditional territory demographics; and goals will be key to your success in this position. Your demonstrated ability to set goals, develop and implement related strategies is necessary. Knowledge of related legislation such as the Umbrella Final Agreement, FNNND Self-Government Agreement, Final Agreement, the FNNND Lands Act, and other regulations is an asset.
