Position Summary:
The Director of Finance and HR is a key member of the RVF executive team, responsible for overseeing the organization's financial and human resources functions. This role is integral to ensuring the organization's financial health and operational effectiveness while also fostering a supportive and compliant work environment. The Director will provide strategic financial guidance, manage the organization's financial operations, lead HR initiatives to attract, develop, and retain talented staff, and manage a small team of finance and HR professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
Finance:
1. Financial Planning and Analysis:
Develop and implement financial strategies to support the organization's mission and goals.
- Prepare annual budgets, forecasts, and financial plans in collaboration with department heads.
- Monitor financial performance against budgets and forecasts and provide regular updates to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
2. Accounting and Reporting:
- Oversee all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Coordinate annual audits and ensure compliance with audit requirements.
3. Cash Management and Investment:
- Manage cash flow and ensure sufficient liquidity to meet operational needs.
- Oversee investment strategies and manage relationships with financial institutions.
- Ensure effective management of grants and restricted funds.
Human Resources:
1. HR Strategy and Planning:
- Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the organization's mission and goals.
- Provide leadership and direction on all HR matters, including talent acquisition, performance management, employee relations, and organizational
development.
- Foster a positive and inclusive work culture that supports employee engagement and development.
2. Recruitment and Retention:
- Oversee recruitment efforts to attract and hire qualified candidates.
- Develop and implement onboarding and training programs to ensure new employees are integrated effectively.
- Implement retention strategies to reduce turnover and enhance employee satisfaction.
3. Compensation and Benefits:
- Manage compensation programs, including salary structures, merit increases, and incentive plans.
- Oversee benefits administration, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other employee benefits.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
4. Employee Relations and Compliance:
- Handle employee relations issues and provide guidance to managers and staff on HR policies and practices.
- Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations and maintain up-to-date HR policies and procedures.
- Conduct investigations and resolve employee complaints and grievances.
Team Management:
1. Leadership and Supervision:
- Manage and mentor a small team of finance and HR professionals.
- Provide training, guidance, and professional development opportunities to team members.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback.
- Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
2. Team Coordination:
- Delegate tasks and projects appropriately to team members.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination within the team.
- Monitor team performance and productivity and implement improvements as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Master's degree or professional certifications (CPA, SHRM-SCP, SPHR) preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in finance and human resources management, preferably in a non-profit or affordable housing setting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting principles.
- Experience with HR best practices, employment law, and talent management.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in financial and HR software systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and foster a positive organizational culture.
