Wind Turbine Technician - Blade Specialist

A Snapshot of Your Day

As a Wind Turbine Technician, you’ll be responsible for the routine service, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Siemens Gamesa wind turbines. While based at a home wind farm, you’ll also support a mobile team that covers up to three additional sites as needed. Performing blade inspections will be the main focus of the role, including inspection of all blade quadrants and demarking the findings. You will be required to be physically prepared for the job demands including ladder climbing (minimum 267 steps), lifting, bending, working overhead, and operating in adverse weather conditions while working at heights up to 300ft.

How You’ll Make An Impact

  • Performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on wind turbines, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Performing blade inspections, the main part of the time, including the inspection of all blade quadrants and demarking the findings.
  • Maintaining compliance with safety standards, site rules, and environmental protocols.
  • Responding effectively to stressful or hazardous situations, ensuring the safety of yourself and your team.
  • Climbing turbines (up to 300 feet) and working in confined spaces at elevation.
  • Traveling is required to support other sites and contribute to broader operational needs. Overtime will be required in this role.

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or experience in electrical or mechanical systems is preferred. Various combinations of training and experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working in a technical, mechanical, or electrical field, ideally related to wind turbines, SG4X experience considered an asset.
  • Proven ability to work safely in a team setting and meet physical demands, including weight restrictions under 265lbs and passing a job-specific medical exam.
  • Strong skills in planning, problem-solving, and independent decision-making with a focus on quality and safety.
  • Hands-on experience with electrical systems, including PLCs and converters; customer-facing experience is an asset. Blade inspection/repair experience is also considered an asset.
  • Must be able to travel up to 100%, domestically and internationally. Valid passport and driver’s license with a clean record are required and must be maintained throughout employment.

About The Team

The team is responsible for the maintenance and continued safe operation of installed wind turbine assets on behalf of our customers. Safety is the most important aspect of our operations. In this role there is a requirement for travel to other wind farms in Alberta to perform blade inspections as required. There is also a requirement for overtime and on-call duties in the position as required which will be clearly communicated and forecast in advance. Training and development are provided by the company with the aim to develop all employees to have a safe and successful career in the company.

Un aperçu de votre journée

En tant que technicien en éoliennes, vous serez responsable de l’entretien courant, de la maintenance et du dépannage des éoliennes de Siemens Gamesa. Tout en travaillant dans un parc éolien en particulier, vous soutiendrez une équipe mobile qui couvre jusqu’à trois sites supplémentaires, selon les besoins. L’inspection des pales constituera la principale responsabilité du poste, y compris l’inspection de tous les quadrants des pales et l’inscription des résultats. Vous devrez être physiquement préparé à répondre aux exigences du poste, notamment à monter dans des échelles (au moins 267 barreaux), à soulever des charges, à vous pencher, ainsi qu’à travailler à des hauteurs pouvant aller jusqu’à 300 pi, dans des conditions météorologiques défavorables.

  • Effectuer la maintenance planifiée et non planifiée des éoliennes, y compris des systèmes mécaniques, électriques et hydrauliques.
  • Effectuer l’inspection des pales, la majeure partie du temps, y compris l’inspection de tous les quadrants des pales et l’inscription des résultats.
  • Assurer le respect des normes de sécurité, des règles du site et des protocoles environnementaux.
  • Réagir efficacement face aux situations stressantes ou dangereuses en assurant sa propre sécurité et celle des membres de l’équipe.
  • Monter dans des turbines (à des hauteurs allant jusqu’à 300 pi) et travailler dans des espaces clos en hauteur.
  • Être en mesure de se déplacer vers d’autres sites, de répondre à des besoins opérationnels plus larges et de faire des heures supplémentaires.

Ce dont vous avez besoin

  • Diplôme d’études secondaires ou équivalent requis; formation ou expérience supplémentaire dans le domaine des systèmes électriques ou mécaniques, de préférence. Diverses combinaisons de formation et d’expérience peuvent être prises en compte
  • Au moins 2 ans d’expérience dans un domaine technique, mécanique ou électrique, idéalement lié aux éoliennes; expérience avec SG4X, un atout
  • Capacité avérée à travailler en toute sécurité en équipe et à répondre à des exigences physiques, notamment peser 265 livres ou moins et passer un examen médical propre à l’emploi
  • Solides compétences en planification, en résolution de problèmes et en prise de décision de façon indépendante, en mettant l’accent sur la qualité et la sécurité
  • Expérience pratique avec des systèmes électriques, y compris des A. P. I. et des convertisseurs; expérience de contact direct avec la clientèle, un atout. Expérience en inspection/réparation de pales, également un atout
  • Disposition à voyager jusqu’à 100 % du temps, au pays et à l’étranger. Un passeport et un permis de conduire valides ainsi qu’un casier judiciaire vierge sont exigés et doivent être conservés pendant toute la durée de l’emploi

L’équipe est responsable de la maintenance et du fonctionnement continu et sécuritaire des éoliennes installées pour le compte de nos clients. La sécurité demeure l’aspect le plus important de nos activités. Dans le cadre de ce poste, il est nécessaire de se déplacer vers d’autres parcs éoliens en Alberta pour effectuer des inspections des pales, selon les besoins. Il est également nécessaire d’effectuer des heures supplémentaires et du travail sur appel, s’il y a lieu, et ceux-ci seront clairement communiqués et planifiés.
